I’ve joined the forum today. Following a very long break from playing (around 35 years!) I picked up where I left off in 1973 and have recently joined a new functions type band. This means playing all sorts of music most of which I completely missed first time round so most songs are completely new to me. I use a Les Paul and a Strat (my preferred) and a recently acquired Marshall JCM 900 combo, the 4502 model with 2 x 12 Celestion speakers and have been building up my selection of effects pedals. The question I have regarding the amp refers to the very thin sound it has (on either clean or gain channels), it’s as though the amp is passing through a graphic equaliser with all low frequencies removed. Before I got the amp it was given a major service with new EL34 output valves, pots and some sockets / wiring and the bias was set however it really doesn’t kick as I’m sure it should, or maybe this is normal. In all honesty get a fuller frequency sound from my other Marshall, an MG100 solid state amp. I would prefer to use the JCM for upcoming gigs so does anyone have any suggestions, apart from using the MG? I looked on-line for any ideas and found this forum so I’m relying on you.
