What are your thoughts on Marshall that have been heavily modified?

I've come across a JCM800 2004 head from 1988 which has been modded with an extra channel for clean with it's own preamp tube & it has also had an FX loop added, the seller says the work was done in Germany to a good standard. Unmodified 800 heads typically go for about £500, this one is going for £450ono, do you think that's about right price wise or do the mods devalue it?

i never ask that kind of questions on an "old" amp's.
what matter to me is; if its in a good shape cosmetics and sound wise and if i Dig the changes they did.
if so, and the price looks right to you and in with your budget- buy it with a smile.

I work on amps myself, and adore finding cheap heavily modified Marshall tube amps. They are not too difficult to restore to a mainly stock configuration, as long as the boards aren't hacked up too much and the transformers are OK. All that is needed is a good source for replacement front and rear panels.

    Great answers guys.
if it sounds good with the mods then it's a winner.
If it doesn't, then original/replacement/upgraded parts for JCM800's aren't hard to come by.

Thanks for replies guys, I'll just need to get the funds together, classic example of don't look til you have the cash. :)
