I've see one of slash's videos when he had the JCM Slash in his rig, and KT88's were put in. But anyone have these KT88's in there Jube?

What's the difference between the 34's and 88's?

    according to this page..
Slash Guitar Page - How To Get Slash Sound

''Slash's recommended settings for his amplifier are:
    For distorted sounds: Presence: 8, Bass: 7, Mid: 7, Treble: 4 1/2, Output Master: 10, Input Gain: 6 1/2
For the clean sounds Slash replaces the EL-34 power tubes with KT88 tubes: Presence: 0, Bass: 9, Mid: 3, Treble: 5 1/2, Output Master: 10, Lead Master: 0, Input Gain: 4.

Feel free to experiment with other settings and tubes :)

kt88's only for clean....man, if you can't nail the slash tone using the Jubilee stock as it is, then the problem is not the amp, it's your playing style.

trust me, i can "nail" the slash "tone". I was just asking what the kt88's were used for. Im still a "tube noob" so i dont know so much yet. But i love the EL34's i think there one of the best IMO.

The KT88 is pretty much my favourite tube for what I do.

The most distinct difference between EL34 and KT88 is how they emphasize certain frequency ranges.

The EL34 is very mids-heavy. Lots of cut. Lots of clarity. Pretty much it's a very punchy tube with pristine highs.

The KT88 has a strong emphasis on the upper-bass and lower mid frequencies. Kind of in between bass/mid. I find this adds a lot of warmth to the sound when you compare it to EL34. The highs aren't as emphasized as with the EL34, but that doesn't mean that the KT88 is muddy in that area. The KT88 kind of rolls off some of those highs and balances the higher frequencies.

There's a whole lot of other differences, but this is the general gist of what a KT88 will do for you compared to an EL34 and vice-versa. I will add this though: Don't swap tubes just because someone else uses the same tubes. If you're curious you can obviously try, but what I'm saying is that it's much healthier to just stick with what you like and what works for you rather than trying to make someone else's setup work for you. I'm not really an expert on Slash's gear, but I've always associated his distinct sound with EL34 tubes as a basis.

No, i love the EL34's im not changing them for anything thing else because those are the tubes that work for me. I just wanted to now what the 88's were all about. For me the EL34's have the warmth and the punch im looking for. I wonder why he didnt keep the 34's in his jubilee.

My guess would be 88's have more headroom.

Another way to look at it is KT88's need more signal drive voltage for a given power output than EL34's, so the balance of overdrive between the preamp/phase inverter and power tubes will change. Basically the amp will sound a bit cleaner as they will not distort as soon as the EL34's.

But. If you want to here the jubilee, you have to listen to the very beginning of Slash's tour with Myles. Live at the Roxy and if you listen to them live in Glastonbury that's were you will here the Jube the most, and you can here him with the KT88's.

I don't think he used EL34's here. I know for a fact at the Roxy he had the jubilee, I think he had the prototype for Glastonbury.
