That is some serious bad luck.

Which model SGs? I bought a brand new 2017 SG STANDARD. It was built well with no issues. It never got playing time as the Les Pauls were better for me so I sold it. Didn’t like the feel or the pickups. But it was a nice guitar. No issue with frets.

I assume the custom shop has that chunky 50s neck? How does it feel in your hands. Would it pass the blindfold test?

I believe the Custom Shop necks are generally more exaggerated in the girth dept than actual 50's guitars . This one is chunkier than my 56 or 58....and they both have big necks .
There was probably more human variation in the real 50s necks

I purchased 4 Gibson guitars in the last year, none of them high dollar units, but my favorite is the 2017 SG faded, yes I did a setup to bring it to my preferences, that took me about 20 minutes, got it under 800$ and with a fat leather strap no neck dive, I have a shit ton of clips up in this forum (my crappy playing and all) and for the most part that SG is my go to!

Some people are so stupid , if you want a ' traditional ' Les Paul buy a f~<€ing ' traditional ' , it's not a difficult concept to understand . Gibson have played around with the standard for many years now and are obviously continuing to do so .

That is so strange. Last weekend I bought a 2013 SG 50’s Tribute. Certainly not a top of the line model but this thing kicks ass. Plays great, action is great, frets are smooth and the P90’s are absolutely fantastic!

I also have a $3K PRS and my SG is a real close second to this guitar - it’s that good.

You need check your PRS to see if it’s a fake or find the guy who modified it. Sorry, but no fucking way. We’re more likely to see a Zombie Appocolypse than see a Gibson Tribute being as good as a high end PRS USA.

LOL - the PRS is genuine. All I said was it's a close second - I didn't say it was as good or better nor would I believe that. I love my PRS and as far as I'm concerned that will always be my number one. But I also realize the price tag includes the name, flame maple 10 top, birds, etc., and not necessarily all playability. Having said that, I am really pleasantly surprised with the SG. Maybe I got lucky, maybe the guy who owned it before me did an unbelievable setup - I don't know. Maybe it's me and I don't know shit about guitars LOL. After all, when I bought my Standard Strat (a.k.a. MIM), I blind tested it against two other American Strats, and kept coming back to the MIM. So I bought it. All I do know is the SG plays and sounds really good.

Heck, I've seen people on this forum and others that complain about how crappy a high end or custom shop Gibson, Fender, etc. was so price isn't necessarily always directly in line with quality.

Oh, and if there's a zombie apocalypse my sons and I already staked out the Sams Club in our town and we'll defend it to the death - but we might be willing to negotiate a food/ammo swap. You can eat and drink for years in that place!

I know PRS USA quality and I know the Tribute line......Not comparable products.

I’m not knocking Your Gibson because I like it but there is fair bit of exaggeration going on. Most guys bitching about custom shop guitars don’t own one. They maybe tried one....doubtful.....most likely read a blog or saw a YouTube video.

Let’s just leave it at I own both guitars and you don’t. You have your opinion and I have mine. Done.

Two months ago I bought a brand new Custom Shop Desertburst Custom LP and it was flawless right off the bat. I did a little tweaking, put on new strings ( I HATE the factory strings) and I absolutely love it.
