Should be fun, OBX is a good setting to test tracking. I'm mostly using that and Mini Moog emulation, #4.

Thanks for the tip.I plan on having some fun playing around with it .The BOSS SYB-3 was nice but it was limited on the bass side of the scale for a guitar , as opposed to this new one which totally blows away my old one capabilities wise and so many more functions .I also checked out the EH pedal for the organ and wow I was blown away by that one also .So many new toys hitting the market .:applause:

They actually had a storefront in Manhattan/48th street. You'd go in and in the back they had a stage
and seating.. lights go out and they'd demo EHX effects. Or did I dream this?
LoL.. kidding. It was cool. 48th Street was great.

The opted for the C9, it had a better fit than the B9 for my use.

Hey Kris, it's not so much spacey noises as it is synth wave tones although not sampled waves. I have no idea how they do it by not with samples. It's magic stuff. Harmonics are fun with it though..

I also was very impressed that the EH Synth 9 did not adversely affect tone as there was no drain in my tone (to many pedals in the chain) as I placed it right at the start of my pedals .

Ok , I was playing around with this most wonderful pedal (dare I say one of the most fun pedals in my lifetime ) so I was playing around with setting 1, the OBX setting and this thing is just so out of this world ,it's like it's not my Les Paul anymore going into my 2555X .my friends were telling me it sounded like a church organ . This pedal is like a drug it's so addicting !

I finally got to demo the Synth 9.

    I had high expectations.

    IMO, it didn't track well.

I'm not a fast guitar slinger but it had notes drop out when I played quickly.

    It was noisy and clicked.

    Next.

I had the same experience with the C9. Worked "ok" for simple chords, but in a complex chord (like a dom13), notes would drop out and it would glitch. I bought mine used, and thought it was defective, so I sent it back. Glad I read this before trying another one.

Complex chords will cause a glitch agreed on that. These pedals are all about technique, it takes a little time. Where you have them in the chain, pickup hum, noise, fret buzz etc are factors. I was playing the S9 the other day and had a some trouble with tracking. Few days before no issues same setup. Not 100% sure why the difference. Same guitar, bridge humbucker. It requires a clean signal, the rest is in the hands. The EH demos of these pedals are good examples of what they can do. The tough part is getting the technique to master them. Notes dropping out scaling, maybe more than one string is present in the signal causing a conflict with settings requiring single notes.

I demoed the Synth 9 right into an Orange OR 120 with an Orange cab.

    No other fx were used.

    I expected to be wowed.

    Meh.

The Sam Ash salesperson agreed (that's a surprise).

He suggested the Boss SY 300 (no surprise, it's $699.00).

    Cool sounds, but...............

Hmm, who knows.. That SY300, not cheap. I'm not too keen on spending a ton of time writing patches anymore.

    It IS expensive.

Funny, it doesn't make me want to buy it.

    Or lust for it.

    It does track well.

This is totally different.........it's expensive.......I do like it though............

Well, yes and no. You DO have a point about having to have the right technique - just as you do with a guitar synth. But the pedals have voicing limitations that simply won't work for me. Overtones from complex inversions can cause glitching or note drop, even as the only pedal in the chain and meticulous technique. The videos - after watching again - use carefully constructed chord shapes and patterns to showcase the pedal. I understand it's the nature of the beast and it's technology in progress, but it's not ready for prime time IMO - at least not for me. I'm not bashing the pedal - others will be able to use it. It's just not for me until it's as robust as a synth pickup.

a lot of these pedals and along with some tremolo types are pretty much instruments in themselves.
ya gotta take them time to really learn how to use them and get the most of their abilities.

Update on the synth9. I grabbed one of my strats, h/h config. The neck needs adjustment, I'll get to that. There is a very very slight amount of fret buzz around the 6th to 10th fret, not a big deal. It's ever so slight, near unnoticeable. It really has a huge effect on tracking and triggers upper pinch like harmonics sporadically. If you are going to use this pedal check your neck and action if your getting odd behavior. Switch to a Parker and an LP, no issues.

I wanted to like this pedal.

    IMO, the sounds were excellent.

    Tracking is a big issue.

I have a Mel 9 and my buddy played his guitar through it.

    Notes dropped out.

Wow, that doesn't happen with my playing.

    Wonder why?
