This is really what I should have snagged instead of the origin 50. Picking it up today at guitar center.

Everything I've read so far is pretty much positive. Psyched!

As long as you like DSL tone its a great amp, I had one briefly and was impressed with it. If some day a mod is discovered to make it less scooped sounding and more open I'd snag another one. :yesway:

Also I guess I'm not getting my DSL today. Just got a call from guitar center that they didn't actually have one in stock. Supposedly they are going to have one there for me by Wednesday.

Wouldn't that just make it a JCM 900 then? LOL!

On my DSL20, I accomplish 95% of what I need on the green Classic Gain channel, Gain & Volume floored! The Ultra can be OKAY at the same tone settings, but very different sounding. I don't think I'd ever want to switch channels for different sounds within the same song. I use all members of the Holy Trinity (Tele/Strat/Paul), so with those "Big F" single coils, there is always a booster/gooser of some sort, out front! That Classic channel can fairly well approximate at least one of the channels of an older style 4-hole, non-master volume Marshall. A tad bit less gain though.

I like my Dsl but I get what @pedecamp intimated about the kinda scooped tone or compressed tone. It’s a different flavor than my SC20 that’s for sure.

Of course my Dsl is a Dsl1hr and I play it thru a 1-12 Greenback. The red channel is much more useable now since I switched out the V1 position 12AX7 preamp tube to a 5751.

The 5751 has about 70% of the gain of a 12AX7, so it’s more musical to my ears. Even at that I only have the gain at about 9:00 on the red channel, it’s sounds really good at that position to me. The green channel sounds great too, no need to mess around with that channel.

Between my DSL1HR and my SC20 I’m getting some really nice Marshall tones!

Might be fun, just for poops & giggles to try the effects send of the DSL1 into the effects return of the SC20. Then for alternate fun, you try the effects send of the SC20 into the effects return of the DSL1.

You can pretty much try any preamp with almost any power section, if they both have effects loops. Besides being an effects send and effects return, it can also be thought of as preamp out and power amp in jacks! Some combinations may sound better/worse than others, but it's not a dangerous or harmful thing to monkey with.

Yeah I’ve thought about trying that Gene, I’ve talked to @Mitchell Pearrow about it a couple of times. I just haven’t got around to trying it.

Since you’ve mentioned it, I keep forgetting which amp I would plug into, lol! If I plug the effects SEND of my Ds1 the RETURN of my SC20 I would plug into the SC20 correct? The Dsl1 would the slave amp? Thanks man!

If you SEND from the DSL1 to the RETURN of the SC20, then the SC20 is the slave because the tone shaping is mostly done by the DSL1 preamp.

Ok thanks for that SM! So doing that I’m using the power section of the SC20 and the preamp section of the Dsl,....so I would plug into the SC20 correct?

You will have to check if you need a jack in the salve amp input to operate it. My VS65R needs something in the input or no sound is output when I slave it to my DSL40CR.

DSL1 SEND connected to SC20 RETURN with an instrument cable.

I slave my VS65R to my DSL via a GT-100 in 4CM for stereo (one GT-100 output to each loop return).

I've had my DSL20H for a couple of weeks now and finally starting to get a grip on the tones I am looking for.

I run 2 1x12 cabinets, one with a vintage 30 in it and the other a creamback. Nice tonal differences between the two speakers. I also did a complete retube which had a major difference as well. Would like to try other tubes like 5881's and KT66's.

Green channel was pretty easy, low on gain and it's a JCM800 style of tone, it REALLY likes my Marshall Guv'Nor pedal.

Red channel is just a bit harsh, so I ordered a 10 band graphic eq pedal to see what I can accomplish.
