Does anyone have any info on this pedal, I was just browsing a secondhand guitar shop and saw the pedal with this description.....

Yngwie J Malmsteen Preamp Overdrive w/Vintage GREY 250 MOD (switchable). True Bypass, LED & Female BOSS Style DC Barrel.

Are they any good, and worth checking out for the right price??

I know there are going to be people that say they love this pedal but I don't really dig it. I owned one before and honestly wasn't that impressed with it. I much prefer a Tube Screamer. The mod that was done to the pedal was most likely a MOJO mod that involves replacing a chip and maybe a few other tweaks (don't remember). Yngwie used the old grey DOD 250 so that is why people mod their pedal to get his early Rising Force sound. It's damn worth it for the price (YJM308) because a DOD 250 (grey version) is selling for silly prices on the BAY.

    Good luck. :)

I built one of these out of some parts I had lying around. It wasn't for me though... Too thin sounding and the distortion had a bit of short sweep (to me at least).

I should mention I only tried it with my 15w practice amp though.

Here's some info on the pedal and the mod DOD OD-250 and YJM-308 overdrive pedal mods.

I used to use the DOD 250 reissue (yellow) I loved it. It was perfect for boosting the gain/front of my DSL. No loss of low end. I think the 308 is basically modeled after the original 250's.

I modded my DOD YJM308 Overdrive into a late 70's gray DOD 250 Overdrive. I removed the stock KA4558 chip and replaced it with a socketed LM1458N (dual 741 op amp), removed C2, and replaced the 0.001uF C3 with 0.01uF. I used fine braid size #2 solder wick and it worked so good de-soldering the parts that they literally fell out of their holes! Done in less than 30 minutes. I finished it off with vintage DOD style fluted knobs! Sounds freaking great now.

I have two of them and both of them are modded to DOD 250 Gray specs. You will LOVE IT. Buy it as soon as possible. The YJM 308 pedals are no longer in production and I actually looked for them on ebay last and found none listed. They sound great stock also and they will go up in value. Yngwie, George Lynch and even country players use them.

The YJM 308 is pretty close to an old Gray 250, but I prefer mine that have been modded to Gray 250 specs. These are my desert island overdrive pedals. If I could only keep one pedal this would be it without a second thought.

A guy named Jason Whitt from Vision Music used to mod them and sell them on ebay. That is where I got mine. I have come across other people who bought them and loved them too. Analogman has a couple versions of modded DOD YJM 308 pedals in stock. I am pretty sure they will sound like the pedals I have. There is another guy who use to mod them on the Splawn Amplifier website and I have heard rave reviews about those pedals as well.

Thanks John. I'll look it up. I just noticed that Steve right above modded his as well. I was using my phone earlier, so I missed it. Its funny, when the YJM 308 was in production, the was droves of them on ebay. Alot of folks didnt like em. Now that they are discontinued, you right. Theyre rarley on ebay anymore.

Too bad they went out of production. I only have one YJM308 and would like to get another as well as the reissue yellow 250 to mod to gray specs too. Many people don't know that the very first yellow 250 had the exact same PCB inside as the last gray 250 had in it. I think there was a little overlap transitioning from gray to yellow in 1981 and by 1982 had changed to a different PCB layout using the 351 chip instead. I wish Digitech who took over DOD would release them again, especially if they did a true gray spec 250 replica from the late 70's. It would sell like hotcakes and blow the roof off of the ebay market, hehe. Oh well. At least I made myself a gray 250 clone anyway but would be cool just to have a DOD collection representing the evolution of the 250 family.

You can check them out here Dave. My modded pedals sound like they took my stock pedal and stuck a tube in it.:)
