I have an Ibanez electric guitar that I set up as a Baritone guitar with the top E string tuned to a low A - guitar tuned to A instead of E.

I was wondering if I could actually put a set of Ernie Ball Slinky 6 string bass set of stings on it and tune it to be used as a short scale bass guitar?

    This set of strings gauges are: .090 .074 .054 .042 .030 .020W

Now the low .090 string is actually smaller than a standard low E on a bass, as I am remembering them being at somewhere around .105??

A friend of mine hit me up to play bass for a project for a unspecified period of time - or maybe even for permanent. These guys have an incredible set list that seems like more fun than I have had in many years. And I have always loved playing bass anyway, as my ear and feel for that instrument is actually remarkable for being a lead guitarist all these years. My experience as a drummer in the past probably helps as well.

I am wondering also, how a 6 string bass is actually configured on it's tuning? Are the added two strings from the standard 4 string config added as one above the low E and one below the bottom/smallest string G?

I should add that I already have an older really nice Gretsch 4 string bass. But this idea on the 6 string bass is not that important as in needing it for this possible new band project.

My other issue is needing a bass speaker cab. I have some bass gear but it is buried in my storage unit. I was figuring I could use my early 70's Ampeg V4 head and either borrow a bass cab from a friend of mine or just pick up a bass cab for cheap.

I think you should change a lot of parts, the bridge, frets, nut and tuners andmaybe even the pickups.

the intonation would be way off,

the scale would be too short, wrong and frets in wrong place

This guitar I am mentioning has already been adjusted on the saddles and intonation to accommodate baritone strings. The low A is aprox. .060, so yeah, I would have to adjust some more as this set has the low string at .090.

Anyone know how a 6 string bass in tuned/config on the strings?

6 string bass adds a low B and a high C above the G conventionally.
