On a mono type Cliff 4 prong jack is there any designation between positive and neutral? I've rewired an old cab and there are cliff jacks on a PCB that I can reuse but I can't tell which one is + or - or does it even matter? I've always used regular input jacks before so this is my first time repairing with a Cliff type jack.

A Cliff mono jack is switched but that really doesnt matter for speaker jacks. Also so do you have Genuince Cliff S4? Or like a Neutrik copy? look at the pic see it that helps? In the case of wiring speaker cabs you can run the wire through both the constant post & the switched post.

    Large pictures are great, thanks.

I'm not sure that it's a genuine Cliff jack but it's of similar type. It came off of a Crate cabinet and I don't feel like waiting around to order a new jack so I figured I would just take this one off the PCB and trash the board.

What exactly does the "switched" part mean? Is that if you had different wiring configurations going to each side and a separate toggle switch to control it?

On a S4 when there is nothing plugged into the jack, the "switched terminal" and the "constant terminal" are shorted. This is true for the TIP (+) & Sleeve (-) in other words pin1 & pin 4 are shorted and pin2 & pin3 are shorted when nothing is plugged in the jack.
