Ceriatone 2555 Lacks Gain

    On the wrong side of the tracks.
    With the PPIMV, you are overdriving the phase inverter. This is phase inverter saturation.

    The more PPIMV is turned down, the less power tubes will saturate...

    You can only saturate power tubes by turning PPIMV high up- therefore loud.

    The PPIMV does not add any gain.

    The gain comes from your preamp, drives the phase inverter (or overdrives phase inverter),
    then the phase inverter drives (or overdrives) the power tubes.

    Input > Preamp Gain > phase inverter > PPIMV > Power Tubes > Speaker
