AlNiCo speakers are great. They have that something.

You are not going to find a standard 4x12 cabinet with high power handling AlNiCo speakers.

I like them. While I was making Impulse responses I tried one in an Orange 1x12 cab. It sounded great. It was so good, I had to try two in a 2x12 cab. I loaded them into a Marshall Silver Jubilee vertical 2x12 cab. Also very very good sounding. So, at this point you may have guessed it. I bought two more to see what they would sound like in a 4x12. First cab I tried was a Marshall JCM 900 4x12. It sounded horrible! I couldn't believe it??? Very thin and way too trebly sounding. So, I thought maybe they don't like regular size cabs and/or grill cloth. I loaded all 4 up in an Orange PPC 4x12 cab. It sounded huge!!! They also worked really well in an open back Vox 2x12.
My take on them is they like open back cabs or oversize cabs the best. I think the thicker grill cloth can be helpful as well to tame some of the treble.

Mesa Boogie puts a California Tweed 2x12 together with Jensen 100W AlNiCo speakers.

I heard them and haven't been able to stop thinking about building something around a pair of them. Like a 6G6 Bassman combo. I also have an open back 1X12 cab I've been meaning to put onr in. I don't think I'll be able to find one for a penny less than 300 which is a little hurtful (not that I dont think theyre worth every penny) unless anybody knows anything different.

How do they sound at home or bedroom levels? Just wondering if they have to be cranked to bring the wonders out. What's the wattages of your amps? I'm meaning to get this for a dsl40cr. It now has a gold. It's also nteresting to read that it works better with open back.

I use it in a fender deluxe reverb (22 watts) and with my 1959...... its pure bliss with both amps at any volume..

Can a Marshall service center reload a cabinet with different speakers? I noticed on Musician's Friend - the 90th anniversary speaker.

Is your factory speaker V-type? I replaced that myself when it was brand new. I have Celestion Gold in it and the V-type is in the garage. I'm not sure whether to pull the trigger on the Cream.

I got several of them when they first came out.

I use them mainly in multiple 1 x 12 cabinets tuned for JBL E120s, with 3 piece backs x all 3/4 Baltic Birch ply.. I take off 1 back panel, and keep the ports open. I never run them Ported, as they are not compatible, and is not good for the speaker.

I also like to mix the Cream/Redback with Hemp coned JBL E120s.

I put 1 of them in my 2001 Fender Cyber Twin, and I also put in a 150w Celestion G12H Redback.

The other amps I use them with are a LTD ED Metro GMP45 head

69 Blackfaced Dual Showman Rvb/ODS. I also use the Redbacks.

I also really like the G12H Redback, and is probably my favorite Ceramic Celestion. Its also a very smooth speaker with no harshness, or mud. I find it like a Ceramic version of the Cream. It also does most everything well.

For Ceramic Celestion. IMHO this is the one to get. Recommended for open back too.

I never found the Cream to be spiky in the treble when new. Sounded great straight out of the box, though they do sound better with time.

These also work great for low watt amps, as it doesn't take a lot to make them lively. They are very responsive.

And it would be a lot of coin for a 4x12 loaded with Alnico speakers... Lol...
