I am trying to decide between a 1981 jcm b cab with original g1265s or a 1986 jcm a cab with original g12t75s. Both cabs are solid but need to be retolexed at some point. (Not important to me right now)
Both cabs have original speakers and are in very nice broken in condition. The 1986 is $400 Cdn funds and the 1981is $700 Cdn funds. I am pairing with a 1987 jcm 2210. I know the 65s are a great speaker and in this condition I am leaning toward this cab. Any opinions out there??? Lol

Depends on the tones you're trying to cope. If you're a Schenker fan (as the 2210 suggests), G12Ts hands down. Same for Malmsteen tones.
Early G12T-75s are very good speakers, much fatter than the more recent ones.

The 65 and UK 75T are practically the same speaker. Either will sound great.

I tried a set of Marshall Vintage speakers in my Silver Jubilee 4x12 cabinet. After one gig, the UK G12T's went back in.

I have the matching "A" cab for that "B" cab. Can't imagine what they'd sound like with the 2555x hooked up. Probably AWSOME!! Congrats on your score!!
Let us know what you think once you play through it.

I have the exact same cab: '80 JCM800-badged 1960B. It originally came with G1265s, but I got it with vented mid-80s G12T75s, and it sounds HUGE. Way better than any later 1960B I ever played, which also has a lot to do with how different vented G12Ts are from later iterations of the speaker. And it does the Schenker thing in spades (for good reason, as that's what he actually uses since the 80s). Works fine with both the DSL100 and SV20H.
Only downside is, it's very heavy (which is why I mostly gig with 2x12s, about to get an EVH 2x12 for the SV actually).

Hey thanks man, I started looking into it and discovered that too. The others are Sept28th 81. Owner told me 83 but whatever, still a sweet score I think.
I will for sure, owner is about 4 hrs round trip for me so end of August we agreed I could come grab it

Yeah, look for a yellow-crayon Q or some similar "pass" letter inscribed under the leads on the back side of the cones.

75's like that stopped early 90's I believe. Great cones.

If the 65's are Marshall labeled, those are even better, but if they are 1984 Celestion aluminum labeled they are completely different. I am not fond of them.

400 Canadian ($300 USD) is a great price. What are the cosmetics like?

Are you chasing value or perfection?

I passed on the cab with 75s. Cosmetics were ok though, both cab similar in that they could use a re tolex but thats not important to me. They ll still sound the same. I chose the 1981 b cab as it was gone through by a reputable tech.

They re 1981 rola celestions..not Marshall. Personally I fo not have experience with them but I think they ll be a nice match for my 2210.

This cab just needs some retouching: staples pulled, flaps glued, taped and weighted down.

You will regret retolexing, just leave it! Its fine.
