from looking on youtube i have narrowed it down to:
    -black cat OD 1
    -freakshow effects brown rabbit
    -earthquaker white light

i'm looking for something that won't color the sound, just boost it. i'm also looking for something simple; two or three knobs.

it seems like the black cat has more treble/bite than the others-which i like.

i don't think the tube screamer has enough juice.

get a tc spark booster. That works wonders and sounds soo good.
All the other overdrive pedals I have tried have coloured the natural tone of the guitar. But I do like the Ibanez Tube screamer.

What you are describing is a Toneboys TBOD-50 Overdrive, I have one and it is exactly what you describe, very transparent on my Marshall JMP master volume, plus it cleans up really well when i roll down my guitar volume.

Think I have 10 OD pedals.
I just about always use my Tubescreamer for classic rock (I also have the Joyo Vintage and they tonewise sound pretty similar) and my custom ZW-44 OD.

I got a Bogner Uberschall pedal for XMas and I am using that one for my second channel for my 2203.

For simplicity you can't beat a TS808 or some variant of it. I used to have a Lovepedal Amp 11 that was pretty sweet, plus it has a boost function. There are so many pedals these days, just an insane amount of choices.

Ive had alot of pedals thru the yrs and i dont use distortions or OD pedals anylonger .

I always found them not to my liking and noisy.

They seemed to.thin the tone out.. i bought into the boutique game yrs ago and got a fulldrive but didnt like the "fuzziness " of it.

The best i tried for transparancy and overall quality ... oh.. and didnt decrease my bass freqs was the MXR Classis overdrive and the MXR Classis distortion.

I leaned more towards the "od " version. I dont really need them but if i played live again i would probably have it on the pedalboard....

The best thing about these two is they sound more natural.

And they didnt take away the "heaviness "...

I had high hopes when i bought the Fulldrive but.i.kept hearing the transistor solid state "raspiness" to everything i played.

It reminded me when you.get a bad mp3 where you hear the digital hollowness..

For the range of gear I play, I have 3 ODs on my 'board. Each play differently. None better than the other, just different to my lugs. I have a clean boost into the ODs which is on most of the time. Right now the ODs are the SD-1, ZW-44 and the BB Preamp. Out of favour but surely to return are the TS9, 808, Fulltone Fulldrive and Mad Professor Sweet Honey. I have others that deserve some wellie at some point soon :thumb:

    cheers,

    Matt.

    I have the

    - Joyo Vintage Overdrive
    - Joyo British Sound
    - OFA SD-1 (Tube Boost)
    - Early 90's TS-9 tubescreamer

ALL are great. Hard to say which is best. Figuring in the price I'd say the Joyo's though.
But forget that $200-300 boutique stuff, get Hot Tubes to build you one for way less.

I can say the Fulltone OCD, with a Marshall and a Strat sound awesome. One of the few overdrives I've found that keeps a Strat or LP sounding like Start or LP!
