As you guys may have seen I’m trying to move my Kemper to get some funds. It’s my only amp so I’m going to have to invest a little back into something. Hopefully I can stay around $600 or so.

Anyway, just wanting opinions on what may be a good option to cover classic rock into EVH and beyond. I think the most obvious choice would be a DSL but, 2000 series? 100h? Maybe something else? Vintage modern, 900?? I dunno, so many choices! My local GC has a mode4 but I’ve never played one of those so I don’t know what I’d be getting.

Any other suggestions would be good too. Maybe a JSX or 5150? There was a victory sheriff on my local CL but it’s gone, dang it! I also though about maybe a runt 20, they can be had for about $800 used.

Anyway, fire away, no combos though.

How big of an amp do you need? Guys are gigging the DSL20HR with success. If you want a full sized head a TSL60 or 900DR are dirt cheap to buy and sound really good, I bet theres guys here that may even sell you one.

I would actually suggest buying a DSL40C from sweetwater or other retailer blowing them out for $349 right now........then swap in the speaker of choice.....done for well under your limit.....spend rest on BEER.

I just picked up a DSL15H and this thing is great! Surprisingly loud. I have not gigged with it yet but I'm sure it could hold its own in any small club.

Chili Don't what the market is like but you could check out the Suhr line of amps if there are any available. And certainly the Bugera Infinium series has been getting a lot of hype on here lately.

Meh, not too worried about number of channels. I just want to be able to cover classic rock to metal. I know an 800 will do it all day but that's probably going to be over my limit, that's why I was thinking DSL or 900 but.. I've heard good and bad both ways.. Definitely a head if possible.

That could be a good suggestion. I don't really want a combo but, for that price I won't get much better than that amp. Thanks for the suggestion! Just have to wait for the Kemper to sell now.

This is off topic but I just have to share this with you guys..

I have the Kemper on my local CL and I was just offered a '76 JMP super lead in MINT condition with fresh everything in trade... Gawd I wish I could take that offer!

I Have seen JCM900's heads priced in the $600 range around my area. I was lucky and found a JCM800 2205 without the footswitch for $650. Keep scanning the classifieds.

If it is really a minty '76 JMP SL, I would take that in a second. It can do the EVH thing and classic rock. For metal... just hit it with a pedal.

    Might just be me though...

Yeah, I’m just concerned with volume. Can’t really afford an attenuator. Trying to raise cash, which is why the Kemper is for sale. I wish like hell I could do that trade though.

Bang for the buck, the DSLs do sound very good and the new one is an improvement apparently. Whether you use 2 channelsmor not, they're available and more modes on the 100Hr than the 20.
    How can you lose??

JCM 900 SLX OR JCM 2000 DSL.

Have given any thought to a Peavey 5150? It will definitely do what you want.
