Best tube amps under $900 @chromeboy?

Man that’s a long list to choose the best, too long. There are so many great amp at this price point,....take you pick!

What are you looking for in an amp? What kind of music do you play? Are you more interested in clean tones or overdriven tones? Do you want a head or combo?

Just a sample of questions one might ask.

New or used. Head plus cab not combo amps. High gain for overdriven tones but ones that could clean up if needed. Now I already have what I want but you can never have enough amps or guitars . Also where do you guys look for used stuff? GC can kinda get pricey even on used stuff so where else have you guys looked. In the sf bay area we have a couple of stores called starving musician but it's really like used gear at new prices lol.

    Thought of 5105 but I think it's $999. Tried staying in OP's budget :)
Meant to say 6505 but it is past my bedtime. Nite y'all LOL

That Hughes and Kettner Black Spirit is another contender at the $999 price if you want insanely loud SS amp. :headbanger:

    Pffft

5150-types start around 250ish used for knockoffs, 350ish for China Peavey combos, 500ish for proper heads... bit more for old USA 5150's, maybe, but not much more

Yeah and no matter what BUgera can burn by the Marshall forum standards but the 333xl is brutal . Might need a JVM but not $under 900

I have no idea what is wrong with the title, seems pretty self explanatory to me. However, I would save a few more $ and go for a "good" amp used. The JVM 410 head will do everything you want and then some, there are good deals on Mesa Boogie amp's on Reverb. Maybe a Mark V-25 or 35? Check out this amp by Hughes & Kettner, it is VERY high gain. I have a buddy of mine that has one that is like brand new that might be selling it. If your interested I'll find out how much. It's a very nice amp that is easy to move around and is very versatile. Also, if you have around $900 to put down, you could buy stuff from Sweetwater or a couple other's that let you pay over 4 months with no interest. So a $1500 amp would only be about $150 a month for 4 months after the down payment. Free shipping too. I know you said no combo's but they can get you going then drop another 1-12" cab under it later and you have a great set up. Good luck in your search!

5150III 50w Head... no brainer. you can find the heads around 600usd used, and they sound killer. I own one and since I've bought it I'm not using my Engl very much.

I've seen JVM205H heads going for under $900, this is where I would start for obvious reasons. Then non Marshalls I've seen Peavey 6505 and EVH 5150 heads going for similar pricing, these are all good high gain amps.
