I'm sure there's already a thread like this, but I couldn't find it. I have all of youtube to surf, and no surfboard...

    Anyway:

What are some of the best albums that used Marshalls? Let's try to avoid "high gain" and stick with more classic "plexi" sort of tones, modern or old albums!

I'll start with one of each,
    Old album: KISS Alive!
Modern: Gallows "Grey Britain" (as far as I know) has some heavy music, but great tone. Not really a "high gain" thing.

Sorry, I felt my response came across as flippant so I edited it. That other thread wasn't great either.

Nah, it was fine. I knew there had to be one. I'm just kind of burning myself out on KISS albums and can't think of anything else besides the typical stuff to listen to. That other thread has other threads that lead to other threads too hahahaha.

Ya know what they say about dumb questions..

    No worries man!

The best raw, organic, Marshall tone ever recorded was definitely the Back in Black album. That is not my opinion, that is fact !

Oh, after reading Swedes response I have to mention VH 1984. I hate "Jump" but H4T and Panama are just great examples of classic Marshall tone.

any of the UFO albums that Michael Schenker was on.

Classic ones is Strangers in the Night - Live album. Some of the best live lead guitar with an on fire Marshall 50 watt heads.

Obsession is great (Lead guitar), Phenomenon, Force It, Lights Out, No Heavy Petting are all classic 50 watt marshall tones.

If my memory is correct Ron Nevison was the producer on all of these. Ron knows how to get the most tone from a Marshall.

Nevison produced Obsession for sure ...maybe Lights Outs

Leo Lyons , Ten Years After bassist, Produced Phenomenon & Force It ,two of my personal picks for some of the best Marshall tone ever recorded

Scott Gorham complained about Nevison trying to get him to play a Pignose when he produced Lizzy ..

Just a Game was the first vinyl Triumph I bought. Loved the intro to American Girls.

listening to the Album right now. The tone is great! A very dynamic sounding band.

Nevison was a terrible producer... He must have been a cousin to Coppola or something...

I know the rhythm on Obsession was with a pignose...but the leads are pure Marshall.

Never knew he was after Gorham to do the same...lol

    Forgot all about Leo Lyons..
