Other than the speakers, does anyone know what the difference between the
Marshall ORI212A Origin vertical 2x12 Marshall SV212 Studio Vintage vertical 2x12? They look pretty identical. I want to get a studio vintage 20 watt amp sometime this summer and I also want to get a cab for it. I will be putting in greenbacks so I don't want to spend an additional $400 for upgraded speakers that I will be pulling anyway.

    Thanks in advance.

looks like about ½" difference in size, MDF vs plywood...

Both those speaker types are crappy.

Agree with @charveldan You can’t believe how lousy those speakers are until you use pretty much any other Celestion. An $800 usd UK made 2x12 cabinet only with the same crap speakers as the cheaper budget DSL line.

Unfortunately I had to buy the SV112 for the pretty box. At least I didn’t have to pay for 2 crap speakers before throwing them away.

Edit: for half the $, I’d get the origin. Sure it’s made of sawdust, but everything else is the same and it honestly looks as good or better.

You should get the good speakers instead of spending money on crappy speakers.
Also recommend: make sure the speaker rating is at least 2X the power of the amplifier.

for the $400 of the cheaper one listed above, you could get an empty 2x12 of high quality from another company like Avatar, Mojotone, etc...etc... even a slightly cheaper box from Weber.

If you're going with the MX212A, look for a used one. GC has them occasionally, and they're usually in pretty much mint condition. I got both of mine used from GC and they're like new, can't tell the difference.

MDF has it's uses but I'm not a big fan of it as material for building a guitar cab. Maybe I'll look into the custom build option.

Your thought behind the cab pretty much describes getting a speakerless custom cab made really.

I have a Marshall 2061CX that's a great vertical 2x12. I don't know if you are in the US but Sourmash makes a nice 2061CX copy.

PPC 112 $ 379.99 shipped to your front door. Bought 2 I like how the stack works. Small footprint, Keeps my beer at just the right hight. Dropped in Greenies, sound hit the whole back of my body, Straight cab so more bottom end. Deeper than most 112 cabs. Closed back I like that. Can take one or two speakers depending on gig. Works really well. So just a little over $400.00 US each I'm good to go.

Monotone makes really good cabs for about $400
Slant style, 1936 style, etc. and you can pick the color and piping. Drop in your speakers and don’t look back. If it needs to say Marshall order an emblem.
