I don't need some dude squirting soap in my hand and then forcing a paper towel in my face after I use the bathroom in a restaurant. Then expecting me to tip him. Drives me nuts! I'm perfectly capable of doing these activities myself. Besides, who wants to sit in a bathroom all evening listening to (smelling???) other guys take a dump?

Yep, I agree. I do not see a point to them, either. And no way I would have ever taken a job like that... ever!

There was an article in the media recently stating that the Bathroom Attendant is going the way of the Dodo bird.
And why doesn't my MacDonald's have a Bathroom Attendant !!?

Ever try hanging out anywhere slightly less pretentious?

Visual cues: self-service parking, plebs in regular street clothes, employees cringing or displaying hostility if you attempt to call them "buddy"

Bathroom attendants aren't limited to fancy restaurants... lots of Bars and Music clubs in Nashville have them. It's always a black dude in a tux and it just feels awkward and wrong.

Phew that's a relief! I thought you were going to regale us with the time in your senior year when you worked as a bathroom attendant.

I worked at a car wash in highschool. Far worse things happened there than some dude watching you pee.

It would be awkward walking to a urinal, the restroom attendant approached you with a white glove and says, "Do you need help with that, sir?" With his hand outward...

This was at a BBQ/Smokehouse/Bar in Chicago near Wrigley field before we went into the Cubs game. I did not expect it here.

I think I would shrivel up if he asked me if I needed a hand. Yikes!

Never tried that...good advice. Here's a tip to leave me alone...

I saw this at the races in Hot Springs, recently. The guy never looked up from his phone, so no tip from me.

Has nothing to do with the money. I go to restaurants, hotels, etc., and expect to tip for the service I receive. And I'm happy to do it - knowing going in it's expected.

I don't expect to have to tip someone after taking a piss. I don't need it or want it in the bathroom. More than once in this situation I've said "no thanks, I'm good" as I get my own soap, etc. and and yet the majority of the time they still stand right next to you and try to hand you stuff. I personally find it very forward and presumptuous.
