I also believe anyone can use whatever they want as long as it works with thier gear.

The name Friedman or Marshall means very little.

Marshall towers over Friedman. Ok...jus being a fan boy.

Totally agree though. My Marshall clones sound fantastic.:flex::D:p:eddie:

That isn’t really fair—as pointed out there aren’t many truly ‘original designs’ out there. And honestly I don’t think the Friedmans I’ve owned, heard and played sound at all like my favorite Marshalls. I hear more Mesa in them to be honest.

No worries - it's been a crazy busy few days, read your post but didn't have time to answer. As for what a functioning alcoholic is, to me and in the case I mentioned, she was a person that drank heavily and very often but somehow managed to keep things in order, but just barely. I'd go to her house after work and the youngest son was sitting out on the porch...the power had been turned off because she didn't pay the bill. She said she didn't have the money...yet the night before she had the money for 'girls night out' and went bar hopping with her friends. Another time the older of the two boys confronted her and said "ummm, mom, can you go grocery shopping? There's nothing to eat in the fridge and Cameron and I are hungry." She said "it'll have to wait until I have money and time." Well of course the night before was another night out of boozing with the girls, she had time and money for that. Many more stories like that but you get the idea...she JUST managed to keep her home and life intact while also being basically a lush.

As for what I meant by being self destructive...it's been long known that heavy drinking for prolonged periods is horrible on a woman's looks, much less what it's doing to your health. I'd get calls sometimes to come pick her up because she was too drunk to drive home. Sometimes I wouldn't get a call though and I was always terrified I'd get a call about her being in a horrible accident instead, or arrested for drunk drinving (of course she had more than one DUI)...so to me, yeah, that's living a self destructive lifestyle. It's hard not to bring it up with someone like that because of course they just play the judgmental card..so other than offering to help her I was stuck in a tough situation and ultimately left. There are much better (more suitable) guys out there for her that can deal with that stuff better than I could and I wish them luck!

    /thread jack

Oh man sorry to hear that. I did not want the thread to go too off topic. I had heard that term before but do not have experience with it. I would call that barely functional or functioning terribly. I cannot stand disorderly or haphazard lifestyle.

I play with s drummer that I’d call a functioning alcohol. He’s got a full time job with a somewhat important job description and a 14 year old daughter , wife with a business etc. but every time we practice it’s constant beer drinking and a bottle of vodka in his pocket. He does this ever day of the week too. Plus he drinks and drives which really pisses me off. What bothers me the most about your story though are the kids. I have a real soft spot for kids and can’t tolerate neglect and abuse.

Well, I will be a rock god as soon as I get my Friedman. A broke & poor rock god, but one none the less.

I've already tried taking my guitar down to the local crossroads. The cops pulled up & asked if I had a busking permit. I said uhhhhm no, but I'm only here to sell my soul for fame & fortune. They threatened to lock me & my soul up if I didn't fu€k off. Got home & told my girlfriend, she burst out laughing & told me I'd be lucky to get enough for my soul to buy a Macdonalds Cheeseburger anyway.
So, I guess now for Rock God stardom I'll just have to save up 3-4k & pay cash.

Yes, you have to pay up front. You have to pay first to play later.

Agree, got to do the hard yards & be in the right place at the right moment.
BTW. I was being satirical in my content about buying a Friedman. I'll stick with my Marshall and just be me thank you.

My Friedman modded JMP is my default amp & im sure the BE-100 is a fine amp by itself but would rather play my MESA Dual Rec instead.
    Killer tones.
I would rather buy another JMP 2203 & have Friedman mod it instead of spending $3500 for a BE-100 but that might take a long time cause Dave is super busy these days.
