Has anyone bought one of these? I already own 3 high end Les Pauls so my interest isn't because I want a Les Paul, my interest is more to see for myself what the playabilty and craftsmanship is at 10% of the cost.

There are two camps on this, one is there ALWAYS is glearing flaws and the other is that they are almost as good as the real deal once upgraded and setup. Way to much confusion for me to read what is bullshit and what isn't.

For $300 I am going to take the gamble and try one to see for myself. I already know hardware will need to be upgraded (bridge, pickups, pots) but these are cheap and easy upgrades for LPs and I am pretty good at fixing any fret work and guitar setup.

If it doesn't work out I will make a video and see how many .50 caliber rounds the guitar can take at 100 yards.

i looked a couple of them and some of the sellers said right on there that what you get is exactly what is in the photos, if thats the case how in the fuck can they stamp made in U.S.A. on it ? so does that mean they are burning gibsons logo too?

the Chinese Gibson clones are considered illegal but, if those are what you're refering to i admit i'm curious too. A buddy of mine aquired one through legal means and said it was right up there but, electronics were crap. Supposedly they're hit or miss though with some not even having a hole through the neck FOR a truss rod. I may not be thinking of the same Chinese knockoffs though. GibsUn i believe are the ones.

yeah they're illegal and constitute a felony. Gibson has a process on their site asking for buyers to be reported and you can serve prison time for them and they are blackballed on sites like CL. People still buy and sell them though, the main thing people do now is admit they're "copies" though them having that logo and USA stamp on them plus a stolen serial number is a big no no. That said, i'm still curious about them. I would imagine that they should be legal (imo) if they weren't passed off as real Gibson's and just cheap clones but, yeah there's a huge legal debacle over them. They get away with it because they're in China and our laws don't mean squat there.

They aren't. They're using real serial numbers like a stolen social security number.

yeah and they don't make that in a lefty i believe but, that part i may be off on.

Yeah they're real in as far as they look like the pix and stuff but, once shipped here the buyer can get in serious doo doo. I don't really agree with that though myself, i would think as long as they weren't advertised as "real Gibson" they should be fine but, then again they ise actual serials from Gibson and i think that's part of the issue.

I wouldn't get near one of those with a ten foot pole. If it says, "Made In U.S.A." and has a serial number, you are committing a felony the minute you take possession of it. It is no different from having illegal drugs mailed to your house.

There have been many threads here on the forum about these guitars. Most of the guys took a negative view of these guitars and the damage they do to the guitar market.

If you want to get one, go ahead, but I wouldn't advertise here on the forum that you got one.

Aw come on Marty. If he is buying one to shoot the shit out of it that should be some fine entertainment right?

Think of the fun PSA's we could make with that. :naughty:

I was strictly posting a joke about the counterfeitness of the guitar with having fake tuners also. I could care less about the scarf joint as I will never own one of these knock off copy embarrassments to Gibson Guitar.

    I'm with Marty
