    Hello folks,
Just acquired a 2034 cabinet, which I believe is a ‘73 according to the cabinets database by Marstran.com gratefully.

I have gone through all threads that mention “7442” speakers.
Mine has 7442U stamped on all speakers, which are on black baskets with 8401 stamped on cones.

Can I please get an education on source of these speakers and what disability the U or the 8401 signify?

    I would greatly appreciate it.

While I'm not certain, they kind of don't look like Celestion speakers, to me?

    Hi Gene,
    Thanks for your input.
They say Celestion on the solder points for wiring.
I have seen pics of 7442 baffles with W and other letters. Never with an U.

The serial tag style and small check grill cloth type indicate 1976.
Not familiar much with 10" Celestions.

Upon asking around, I was told The head that used to be with it was an Artistè 50w from ‘76.
The weird thing is that an 2034 on Marstran’s Cabinet database has one with a very close serial number as a ‘73.
    Thanks a ton.

There are a lot of errors on the marstran database. I wouldn't rely on that.

You can't date a Marshall cab by the serial # with any certainty. The 7442 ceramic speakers were popular in the 8x10 cabs, but they're at most a 15w speaker, so figure no more than 120w to that cab for power handling.

Pretty sure the speakers had a 20 oz ceramic magnet, 1" voice coil. I've had two 8x10 cabs (S&P cloth, metal handles on both), and they didn't have those cone #'s. Yours might have been reconed.

Past that, they're fun to crank a 50w through!
