That's my question for the amp techs here, or any of the knowledgeable folks here. Is this completely safe, keeping in mind I'm a at home player? I'm not gonna be gigging with this combination,...where it would be more of a concern I would think. The amp is a SC20 and the speaker is a 25 watt, made in the UK Greenback.

So I'm assuming it's fine but I'd like to hear from the experts.

One thing I have noticed is some 20 watt combos that come stock with a 25 watt Greenback, the mini Jubilee combo comes to mind.

So is it perfectly fine for an at home player?

Yes and especially since you play with an attenuator.

If you crank it and use a lot of overdrive, it might be too much for the speaker. Speakers are usually rated based on clean power going into them, not heavy distortion. Adding distortion increases the amount of energy in the signal which means hotter speaker. For speaker safety in overdrive, you derate the speakers 50 percent. So for a 50 watt clean amp, a 50 watt rated speaker is fine. But if you use a lot of overdrive, you want two 50 watt speakers or one 100 watt speaker.

    Interesting @scozz

I've been thinking Greenbacks too. I reckon they would sound awesome with this amp. (sc800h)

I wonder if @tce63 would like to comment here, as if I recall rightly, he has a Greenback option, as well as others to choose from.

Be good to hear from someone who has done a comparo.

Agreed. I've read members on this forum post about blowing a Creamback 65w with their DSL 40 amps.

Why not go with a creamback at 65 watts then no worries. I just picked one up used $80, sounds just like my greenbacks but with more power. Or go with 2 greenbacks. :yesway:

I'd probably go 2 Greenbacks, seeing as I have a 2x12 cab already. This was my preferred path

I've got the 2x12 greenback and working out a plan for a creamback 1x12. :yesway:

I don’t play with a lot of overdrive, just some. As @pedecamp mentioned I do play with an attenuator. I do understand that speaker ratings are rated on a clean signal. As I said I do not use massive amounts of distortion,...just some medium overdriven tones. Thanks @Matthews Guitars! :yesway:

I just did a comparison between a Creamback 65 and a Greenback 25. That’s why I started this thread. Tomorrow or the next day I’m going to switch around the speakers in opposite cabinets to see if there is a noticeable difference.

Really?!?! I don’t think I’m that kind of player. I play some rock and some blues. I’m not knocking down any walls at my house!

All this time we’ve posted back and forth in a whole host of threads @pedecamp and you don’t know that I’ve been playing thru a 1-12 Creamback 65 for the last 10 months!! :noplease:

Plus, two greenbacks adds another dimension. With greenbacks, I prefer two over one.

I have one Cab 1*12 with Creamback and one 1*12 with Greenback

    They sound very similar
Maybe the breakup point of the Greenback is a little earlier
The Creamback is maybe a little more defined, and the Greenback is a little brighter.
But these are small differences and perhaps my ears are tricking me.
    But they booth sounds great.

I also have a SV212 Cab with Marshall V-type speakers, I havent A/B them with the Greenbacks/Creambacks yet.
I have about 80-100 hours in to them and they sounds fantastic with my SV20h

    Cheers

I have an SV20 and blew the voice coil on a Greenback 25 just a couple of months ago. It was in an Orange PPC112 cab. I replaced it with a Creamback 75 watt 75Hz and like this speaker more.
