Hey guys, I have a DSL20HR, using a Traynor DH 212 with greenbacks..
What Marshall cab would sound good with this?
The matching cab comes with 70/80's which I heard were not that good.

    Any insight or suggestions?

You seem to have a good cab already? What are you looking to change? Louder? Flatter?

    Hey,
I've never had a tube amp before... just SS combos so I dont know what tone differences I can get by using other cabs/speakers. I like to play hard rock metalish stuff.
    Should I be using V30's? G12T?
Not sure if using the matching cab does sound different, more of how the amp was built to sound like.

Matching cabs for mid-level stuff are usually optimized for price points / profits, not quality

    Even those lower end Marshall's?
Like the Code Origin or MX (DSL match).
My Traynor is a closed back but has 2 removable pieces.. bought this used and 1 is missing, maybe I'll find something to cover it.

You will be disenchanted by the cheaper models after using better speakers/cabinets.

20200216_222114.jpg 20200216_222435.jpg These are a couple tubes from my DSL20HR... bought used... 2 EL34's are printed in red and 1 is white. Is there a difference? Should I be looking for some upgraded tubes... 1 is also on a mad angle.

Ya I thought so. They're cheap for a reason I suppose.

These Peavey cabs are very good, https://www.sweetwater.com/c624--Peavey--Guitar_Amp_Cabinets
The 1-12" cab and both black 2-12" cabs are great. The better one comes with a V30 & Creamback and the cab itself is oversize and made of pine. I have the 2-12" with Greenbacks and it to is pretty nice. The Peavey emblem comes off with 2 tiny screws and will match about anything. Another very good deal on cabs is from Eminence and you can get the empty or loaded. https://www.eminence.com/guitar-bass/ext-cab/ I have a 1-12" and a 2-12" and they are very nice, all black to match anything. They are also open or closed back so they are great for testing. 2 1-12" cabs on end would make an awesome mini-stack with that amp. With a V30 in one and a CB in the other you could get all kinds of tones depending how you ran them that day. Run both with CB on top, maybe one open back, one at a time, whatever. Always try to buy good cabs and speakers because you could have them for a long time.

I live in Canada so ordering from sweetwater is expensive, any warranty is also hard to deal with.
I was however interested in mixing speakers. Thought about getting a V30 to mix with 1 of the GB and also mixing a EVM12L Black Label but I know nothing about these things

I’d go with the matching cabinet. The seventy/eighty and G-12E speakers are fine speakers.

I have a vintage 2045 with G12M blacks, and an early 1936 (same as the 2045 dimensionally) with G12H30 speakers. Yes they’re great sounding cabinets but to me they’re almost like Museum pieces. I tend to Baby them.

The cabinet I took to the show last last Friday at The Redwood? Origin cab to match my Origin 50 head. Looks cool. Holds up to being fully dimed on 50 watt setting. Loud as hell. Takes the abuse with no worries, which I would be reluctant to do with top shelf vintage gear. Tone that cuts thru the mix just fine too.

(I know you asked about 2x12... My ORI cab is a 4x12, sorry:shrug:)

That’d be Killer with the DSL20. Or a 1965, for that matter. Love those cabs.

The Red ‘EL34’ tubes are your Power Tubes. The white Ecc83 is a pre-amp or phase inverter tube. The white one that’s cock-eyed- I’d pull it out, make sure the pins are nice and straight. Then shine a flashlight into the socket to make sure you get a good look at lining the pins up, with the socket, when you re-insert it.

    @Joe Reeves ……The 1965 is a Killer 4/10 cab while the 1966 is a diagonal 2/12 cab …… Both are just spectacular !!

I can't have a 412. Would never be able to turn it up loud enough to enjoy that size.
212 is the most I could use.

Jet City 2x12. They're affordable.. if you're considering to upgrade the speakers, bear in mind some cabs are sealed with epoxy and might require a little poking and prodding with a flathead screwdriver to remove the seal...
