I picked up a used 2x12 cabinet yesterday and I'm looking for info on it's heritage. It has G12H 30W 70th Anniversary speakers and a butterscotch basket weave grille. The construction is also plywood and not particle board. Any info on it would be appreciated. Pic is below in 2nd post. And oh, I paid $150.00 for it...

Yes but the grille is butterscotch/straw colored basket-weave. I have a JTM45 Mojotone clone that I built and the Celestians sound a little thin compared to a cabinet that I have a Scumback in.

It could be that the grill has faded from the new salt and pepper basketweave to the old faded straw look. Most all of the “straw” looking basketweave Marshall cabinets started as salt and pepper.

I have that 2061 cab and it’s faded a little in the last year so so. I also have basketweave from 1968 and 1969 and they vary from very fadedbrown to slightly, but they all have clean salt and pepper on the excess grill inside the cabinet.

BTW, those 2061cx cabs sound great IMHO.

$150 is a bargain. Those Anniversary speakers aren't my favourite though....as you said they sound thin. I replaced mine with some 1973 G12M-25 Greenbacks with the Pulsonic cones, what a transformation.

Actually the more I play thru them the more I like their tone. I guess it's just different than what I was used to. I'll probably switch one of the speakers out and put my M-75 Scumback in though.

G12h30s sound amazing in a 1974 18 watter or clone thereof...
