Just picked one of these up today for 350.00 bucks in mint condition. I took it home and it really rocks!! WOW It has such nice Marshall tone. I ran it through a 4x12 cab and it sounds amazing!! Not sure what pre amp or power tube brand is in it yet. But these small amps are loud and packed with tone. And its made in England I love it!!!

Congrats. I loved mine when I had it. It was my first Marshall and really got me into single channel NMV amps. Enjoy!

-i love these little guys, my favorite part,.. The reason it sounds so good,... Cathode Biased, that means she's biased hot, more Marshalls should be cathode biased, or people should turn there trim pots up to hear what a Marshall really sounds like

I agree with turning up the trim pot. I would also say try the Genelex Gold Lion tubes!!

My C5 combo is from 2010 also. Do you have the rattle issue when playing through the 10"? I did have have that, it was more like a buzz and did some of the following fixes as well as a few others.

    http://upload.dazurn.com/Marshall Class 5 Rattle Fix Statement.pdf

I haven't upgraded the tubes yet. But this helped the rattle issue, looks crazy but it works.

I just ordered three sets of el84's this week for my Fender BassBreaker 15.

Tung-Sol, Mullard (new sensor), and Tubestore Preferred Series... plus the stock GT's that came with it.

Do yourself a favor, get the TS Preferred Series.
    That's all I'm gonna say.

I played the class 5 today through a 1x12 cab loaded with a G12 M CREAMBACK and it sounds amazing this way also. Its a very versatile amp IMO. I have the volume turned down to just under half and I have an eq pedal and a slight clean boost rocking some country rock tonight. I have a great melody and riff for a good country rock song. I need help with the lyrics lol.

What is a good EL84 tube for this amp?? I wanted one with more clean headroom "harder" with average to late breakup. I have a NOS Philips Mini watt EL84 in it now. But I believe that is a little too warm and breakups fairly easy. I was thinking a JJ or Sovtek EL84-M maybe??

Lots of guys say go with the Sovtek el84M for more headroom, it works but felt stiff and sterile to me. I've been wanting to try a TAD el84 in my C5.
