I would say X for an even sound dispersion. With 2 & 2 you'll pick up on 2 different sounds depending where your ear is.

Edward and Duane both put the JBLs on top.

But EVH always stacked multiple cabs. And Duane always put his single slant cab on top of a road case, so the JBLs were pointed up away from his ears.

Using a single cab on the floor, X pattern will work better. (And since your other cabs don't have JBLs, X pattern probably would work better even if you put the JBL cab on top.)
    --------------------
You've already tried the JBLs on top and decided you liked the X pattern better. You're not using the same amps as EVH or Duane -- there's no reason to load the cab Eddie-style unless you're going to replicate his whole multi-amp multi-cab rig.

You might try both JBLs at the bottom.

I've often run a mix of efficient clean speakers (EVMs, C/Vs, JBLs) with dirtier less efficient Greenbacks/G1265s, and putting the clean loud ones on the floor with the warmer quieter ones up top helps to balance them.

Both Eddie and Duane put their Celestions at ear level, with the JBLs pointing up above their ears -- by stacking or raising their cabs.

But with one cab on the floor, putting the JBLs at the bottom accomplishes the same thing -- balances out the different efficiencies of the speakers.
