I own JMP 2203 and 2x12 cab in a living room. Just because I have no other amp and this is my gig amp, too. Great headroom at low volumes makes I could never imagine less watts for the living room

I look at it this way.

    Life is short
    100 watt Marshalls are awesome
    My neighbors are assholes anyway
    Crank it up!

We LOVE Over-Kill, but what is this 'loud enough' you speak about? ;) Is that like 'too many' guitars? (There's NO SUCH THING as 'Too many guitars')
    :h5:

    Damned straight, on both counts!
And mores the point, it can all be done without neighbour aggravation, with amply saturated tones.
The guitar aspect, absurd to contemplate ever having too many
The equation still stands true : Adequate number of guitars = number of guitars owned +1
There's Science at work here, not simply emotions!

Right. both are subjective. I don't know why guys on forums have so much trouble knowing the difference between subjective and objective, and thus state opinion as facts. And worse yet, state these "facts" without any personal experience. It gets to the point where you may as well take everything said as opinion.
And on this OP subject, my sig-line says where I stand.

100w plexi in the bedroom is just standard over these parts.
    For best results:
    # use a Master Volume, twist that little bastard to around..75 percent max..the better quality plexi you have, the lower you can turn that knob and still have it sounding ' good'.
    # use a 350-500pf bright cap, amp is easier to control.
    # 2x12 Mesa cab
    # dallas Arbiter fuzz, for extremeness.
    # put all your other amps, guitars, pushbikes etc in your bedroom, hang things on the walls, the more junk that's in there the better, when you crank the mother, all the junk stops the soundwaves from making it sound like piercing shit, the more junk, the better the sound will be.
    # keep the 2x12 low and point it straight at the bed - have junk under the bed.
    # This isn't as good sounding as a 4x12, but not far off it. with a 4x12 you'd have to fit too much junk into your room, there'd be no room for you. The 2x12 is an excellent and practical compromise.

"what are the other downfalls of having a big watt amp and full 412 cab?"

The downfall is: you forgot the other cabinet.

Well, I'm definitely up for it, Mitch!
Here's to another 3 months of Pot Noodles & carrots....all worth the sacrifice. I feel bad, not having achieved the full stack - not that I've been shamed by anyone, as such.
    It's On the list!

Its really a small lounge room in a studio style apartment, John, but I'd bet many bedrooms are larger than it!!!
