Too harsh sound.. help with pickups

hi friends
i have an ibanez rg 550 ltd basswood with lock trem
and i still have the ibanez v7 v8 s1 stock from 1996.
u
the sound is too harsh on my bridge pickup,
i compared today with a funny cheap guitar "baffin" wich i noticed has
more more warm pickups but with less output.

i find some pickups wich give me more warm sound and many sustain,
i play metal but with no harsh tone..

thx

You could also try the tone knob. It's free since it came with the guitar.

Many guys with a RG that had the harsh problem load the ibanez with a dimarizo tone zone and are very happy with it.
dimarzio makes a lot of warm sounding pu's for metal,

Try 250k volume pot.
Or put a small cap parallel with pup's coil - try something like 470pF - 4n7. Simple, cheap and effective.

Re: Too harsh sound.. help with pickups

I've had a lot of Ibanez guitars and their pickups are consistently good throughout the line, even on the cheapo models. I'm not really a fan of overwound ceramic pickups, but theirs are surprisingly useful for other styles than metal.

Weird, I thought the V8 in my RG1570 was dull. I much prefer the MHD Asylum+ I replaced it with.

Re: Too harsh sound.. help with pickups

The stock pups that were in my RG2550 were surprisingly good, but changing them to a Tone Zone and an Air Norton made the world of difference.
