DSL pre amp tube positions

I'm still contemplating changing my pre tubes and can't find any info on what effect each of the pre amp tubes on the overall sound. There are obviously 4 tubes in the DSL, one being the phase inverter one.
Can anyone explain what the V.1 V.2 and V.3 positions have on the resultant sound and what effect tube placement has on them, ie a high gain in v.1 as opposed to v.3?

There has already been a recent, extensive thread on this. Go to this thread:

Preamp Tubes? - Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How?

It is found in Marshall amps.
