What Happened to Bolt Amps?!

My local shop had a Bolt Combo 50 and sold a few 100watt head's and I love the sound of these amps! But what happened to them? I went to their website today so see if they had anything new and "BLANK SCREEN"

WTF? Another amp manufacturer down the tubes?

Re: What Happened to Bolt Amps?!

Johnny Hiland would know for sure.....

I played thru one of them a couple years ago at a local dealers shop.
Impressive sound at first impression but after a 5 minutes its sounded processed, I'd never consider buying one. SS pre amp.. Looks stupid, Bad name.

PDG!

Hey, They're gone and no one cares. It's kinda funny.

Bolt can blame the economy if they want to, but that would be bull****.

Re: What Happened to Bolt Amps?!

1: trenchcoat, you assessment that any Bolt amp has a SS pre-amp is incorrect. Every Bolt produced had at least 2 12AX7 pre-amp tubes and a pair or quartet of power tubes. I have owned a BTH-100 for over 2 years and I am friends with a local distributor... so I know. And by the way, it and my 2 Blackstars are the best amps I have every owned.

2: What happened: Bolt was started by two gentleman from the Digitech company. One was the design guru and one was the money guru; in May of 2012, the money guru died. They, and their parent company XP Audio, have been trying to restructure and get up and running again. But with the economy and the courts as constipated as they are, the process could take a while.

not to argue it but the dual reverb JCM 900 has three 12AX7's in it and it uses SS/LED's for the clipping/distortion same with the marshall jubilee. so it's very plausible to think there'd be some SS in those amps preamp circuitry. Doesn't have anything to do with their TONE however.

The "money guru" you speak of was actually the mastermind behind the company and the other line of products from XP Audio, the Morpheus pedals. His name is Rick Bos, and he actually died in November of 2010. I would know, because he was my DAD.

The company wasn't able to go on without him. There is a long story behind all of this too. It's really too bad.

My condolences.

The Bolt amplifiers weren't bad at all...

in fact, I wrote a nice review on the two heads I played at my friends store.

[QUOTE=blues_n_cues;1375974]they had some great ideas.

Yep, I was impressed at how good that head sounded, even on the crappy recorder you can hear it's potential with lots of Marshall tones in there. Great versatility, and the saturation meter was KILLER!!
