An amp tech not knowing how to troubleshoot & replace surface mount components is like taking a car to a mechanic that doesn't know anything about...
Any competent amp tech should be trained or have enough experience on how to repair surface mount components by now. It's not a new technology....
That one 10uF cap looks damaged to me.
No not really. neg. feedback changed but even with a plexi spec., it made no difference.
Not my amp. My stock superlead is distorted like JCM 800 with the volume on 1. It will not produce a clean or cleanish tone no matter what.
my 74 superlead is a distortion monster with the volume on 1. no clean preamp here.
sometimes my plate voltage measures 474 and other times 490. depends on time of day but i just bias to whatever i measure at the time.
So basically you just cut off what you don’t want. Love it!
Yes you are brave.
for where i’m at now, i’d take a brand new 5150 amp over an old 2303 that “sounds great”.
or another DSL!
I’m actually liking my DSL way more than my old superlead.
Old means just that to me.
I want to reduce sound reflection, not sound proof.
I have drywall and it everything bounces around making practice unbareable at times because...
true! one ohm shunts. got me on that one. i should have been more clear.
when i slave it into a dummy load / line out, into a power amp of a 2nd amp, yes. with a ppvimv, it also has a lot of gain. it’s a distortion...
wow i beat the living hell out of that amp and still works great.
all those yeas using a power break.....just goes to show you that if you take...
i been playing now for 38 years, 26 of those years are with that 74 superlead!
it’s time to set her aside for now
it’s easier to play! lol
Don’t get me wrong. if i start playing some ABB, zeppelin, AC/DC and so on, i’ll use the superlead no doubt. i’m into a lot of gain now. more than...
i did the same thing with the shunt method. i calculated 70% dissipation for that and the 1 ohm way. after i biased the shunt method way, i...
Setting your bias using the shunt method for a specific plate dissipation works well too. Very accurate from what I understand.
DSL- Bugatti Veyron
SLP- Ford Pinto :D
At least foe me right now.
