Spider valve head
What's the concensus on these, are they really that bad? I'm thinking of letting go of the 5150 combo head for one of these, but I haven't tried one and the stores are out of them now. Thanks for any input!

Re: Spider valve head
I didn't have the head, but I did own a 1x12 for a while. I ended up taking it back to Guitar Center, but not because it sounded bad. I got a variety of recorded tones that I really liked...single coils, humbuckers, P90s. I took it back because the volume would jump because presets, regardless of where I had the master volume. So, I'd go from bedroom quiet to gig loud...and living in an apartment for the foreseeable future made it a no brainer.
On the other hand, outside of my Deluxe Reverb reissue, the Spider Valve is the one amp in that price range I'd take over the others that I owned. If that issue has been fixed, even slightly, I'd definitely look into owning another one. Between owning the SV and picking up my DRRI, I owned just about every "major" tube amp...Peavey Classic 30/50, Fender Deluxe/Deville, Crate Palomino v32 (nice amp...couldnt get past the delay in changing channels), Carvin Vintage 33, Ampeg Reverbrocket, etc. |

Re: Spider valve head
Get the SV Mark II. The modeling is a lot better than the first version. Don't forget to add the floor board (short board should be good enough).

There's a Channel Volume knob used to control the level of each 'channel' (be it preset or your own custom tone). Just a turn of the knob and push of a button to save the new channel volume, making everything at the exact level you want it, relative to the other channels/presets. Then, just use the Master Volume for what it was intended for. ![]() I have the head, and it ROCKS! Very punchy, warm and dynamic with a Les Paul on one side and a 1960A on the other.

Re: Spider valve head
i am so tempted by this amp but i hear a lot of negative stuff about it. its got everything i want in an amp - fx, volume pedal, tuner, valves etc etc. all in one hit. but i still cant make my mind up. 'it would fit tidy on my 1936 cab',
