Epiphone Valve Sr.

I finally played and tested the FINALLY SHIPPING Epi Valve Sr. today. I've been waiting for these things to appear for more than a year.

Has anyone else played one yet? I am currious on opinions. I only played it through a 4x12 w/ V30's so I couldn't tell how close it was to a VJr. which I play on a set of matching Epi cabs.

If it has the same sound/tone/characteristics as the JR. I am getting it.

Opinions?

You played it? How did it sound? What did you think?

Yes - My first thoughts are that it is great and an absolute steal at $299. Before I make a final decision I need to hear it on the Epi cabs which is what I'm used to hearing the Jr. on. I'm sure I am getting one - just wanted to see what others thought.

Re: Epiphone Valve Sr.

They don't have Valve Sr.s in my local stores yet. What charmed me about the Valve Jr. besides the price was that it is only 5 watts. 1 watt would be even better. As appealing as the front end of the Valve Sr. is, I just don't have room to own another high volume amp. But I will go play it as soon as the stores get one.

Re: Epiphone Valve Sr.

So how was the "tone" of the Valve Sr??? Was it "Fender-ish"??, "Peavey-ish"?? Please fill us in(was thinking about picking one up too.) I bet with some "N.O.S." valves(and a "re-bias",ofcourse...)it should sound very good.

Re: Epiphone Valve Sr.

The store is going to let me "demo" it at home. This will give me the ability to A/B it with my cabs and my Jr., Haze, Night Train and TinyTerror.

I will give a report back after this weekend.

I can tell you that with the full EQ built in, you should be able to dial in the sound that you want. It's loud and has a lot of gain. I thought it sounded Marshally when I first played it.

Re: Epiphone Valve Sr.

"Dang"! I thought it would sound "Fender-ish"...with those 6V6's.

Re: Epiphone Valve Sr.

I'm really interested in these amps. I thought Epiphone had a hit with those little Valve Jr's. I owned one for a little while and loved it (coincidentally traded it towards a Marshal JTM60).

Re: Epiphone Valve Sr.

Can you use N.O.S. 6v6GT's in it?? With the Valve jr,it is "touch&go" with N.O.S. EL84's(because alot of N.O.S.84's have 1&2pins "tied"...and most tube amp buliders dont "tie" their sockets anymore.)
