Marshall Haze 40 or Fender Blues deluxe reissue??
Im trying to decide between the marshall haze 40w combo or the fender blues deluxe. The prices on both are pretty much the same and fit my budget perfectly. Id be using either for small gigs and jamming with friends. Play lots of blues and hard/classic rock. Id also buy a Fulltone OCD overdrive pedal for boost. Which one??

Re: Marshall Haze 40 or Fender Blues deluxe reissue??
I have the Haze 40 and find it is easier to dial in than the Fender both for tone and volume, gives you the option of a pure tube signal path and, if you ever get a chance to play loud enough, the power tube saturation comes earlier and sounds much better on the Haze.
Of course, it really much rather depends on whether you prefer the sound of a 6L6 or EL34 power stage. |

Re: Marshall Haze 40 or Fender Blues deluxe reissue??
I purchased a Marshall Haze 40 combo back in Sept. '09 after straying for a while from Marshall's and I'm really happy with the Haze. I owned a 50W Marshall combo in the 70's, had their 50W MOSFET half stack in the 80's, more recently had the DSL 401, then the TSL 602 combo, and I've loved each amp. Then I took a detour, and went to a Crate Palomino 30W class A combo. The clean tones were great but I couldn't handle the gain channel, too buzzy for my ears. In July '09 I bought a Rivera Clubster 25 Doce, which had beatiful clean tones, but again I wasn't happy with the gain tones. That's when I went to GC and listened to the Haze. I guess I'm just a sucker for Marshall tones, but I was impressed with the Haze and brought it home. I am falling in love with this amp! It's not perfect, channel switching is a little noisy, the gain does not saturate as fully as I like for newer metal tones, but it is still "Marshall" distortion and I love it's sound compared to my recent excursions into other amplifier territories. I even like the effects, although I concur they are limited. It's nice that I don't have to bring out my whole pedal board, I can travel light when the situation calls for it. The amp gets better sounding the more I crank it and it really has all the power I need. It sings at half volume, and the gain reaches all the classic rock heights that I look for. The clean channel tones are nice and clear. I put it next to my Rivera, and the Rivera has a Fender quality that is beatiful, but the Haze wasn't far behind. There was no comparison with the gain channel; to me the Marshall blew away the Rivera. Again, I'm keeping in mind that the cost of the Haze is $700, the Rivera was $1,000. So, all of this is to say that I'm extremely happy with the Haze, happy to be back home with a Marshall.

Re: Marshall Haze 40 or Fender Blues deluxe reissue??
I am bias because I own the BDRI; so far I am the only one in this thread that does. Bottom line, you have to play them both and see what comes closer to the sound in your head.
The BDRI has a few quirks you may already know. The biggest quirk is that Fender used a linear tapper pot on the volume controls. You go from silent to blast just turning the knob to 2. Then from 2 on there is not as much increase. There are ways around that but people say Fender did it to impress idiots in the stores. Bad Fender! I think the amp sounds great and looks beautiful but you can figure everyone in a Marshall forum will disagree.

I have the Purple Plexi 800 and the OCD V1 - They're the only overdrive/distortion pedals I ever use. My son has the OCD V2, and it also sounds killer! The Purple Plexi is much more of a heavier sound and the OCD V1 & V2 just sounds great period.
