Re: Splawn Quick Rod to Marshall Comparison(s)

Sure I totally know what you mean. Its less compressed without the boost. TS screamers add this cha cha cha type sound that works for me.

The Satriani JVM is another amp that sounds really interesting to me though I have not yet had a chance to play one. I can't imagine a time when my YJM100 would not be my main baby, but I would love to have a Splawn or Satrini JVM around too.
1st clip was the QR, 2nd clip was the YJM.

Re: Splawn Quick Rod to Marshall Comparison(s)

kinda off the subject but I've found the Friedman Brown Eye to be my favorite plexi as it has a saturation switch that adds enough gain to do metal and it still sounds like a plexi! it's awesome

but the splawn quickrod I love too. i have not AB'd them like you're intending so i'm anxiously awaiting the results.

i HAVE compared the brown eye however and though most clips suck (surprise right? mine do too) the Friedman remains a plexi through and through just more gain and still tight, it all goes up evenly. the quickrod does a good plexi but it's missing that marshall sweet pick attack (as almost everyone misses) that shines when you add a plate or spring verb to it. something most people either don't notice or don't LIKE but i do!
and then it goes into 800 and boosted 800 then retarded gain 800. so to me having the friedman and the quickrod would basically give you every great tone there is other than the few really good recto tones (yeah i know but i like rectos again and I've found some that sounds awesome).

which fyi....the triple rectifier's the one with scooped mids guys not the dual. the dual has BOOSTED treble and lows. a simple eq adjustment does WONDERS and you can get anything form them. the triple's a little scoopier and gnarlier.

For the record i have both the the BE and Quick rod and they are both killer!!!! The BE is a hot rodded plexi no doubt, it has the spongy bottom one would expect except it is tight also. The QR is more MV marshallish to me.

I played both at the same time into two 4x12a it just sounded absolutely massive! It was a really treat. I imagine you love both amps equally as they are not really the same.

Yeah, I really like what I hear from the BE, probably does the early VH stuff better than the QR (I'm guessing), but they are really pricey.

Recently i have been screwing around with BE just because its newer but i generally show all my amps and guitars equal love. I didnt get it to replace any of my amps i just always wanted one and after four years i was able too. They are extremely expensive, but the truly do sound magnificent! but than again so does the splawn

Re: Splawn Quick Rod to Marshall Comparison(s)

I know I may get bashed for this, but I replaced my Splawn logo with a Marshall logo to match my cabs and YJM (sorry Scott). I'm kinda funny that way, I figure if the amp was made to look 95% like a Marshall plexi, I'm keeping with that theme and taking it one step further. It looks much better sitting atop my Marshall cab, and it's kinda funny, most people just think it's an old Marshall amp.

(In my defense, it does still say "Quick Rod by Splawn" on the face", so Scott still gets props)
