I think it's beautiful, apparently early 80's? I listened to a utube of it and it sounded good.

Re: Legend Rock & Roll 50 combo, Anyone?

I got this one on the way. Bought it on-line. A Friend of my has one, a 1x12 30watt and that one gets the right Grind.
Really Amazing for a Solid State and the sound just Floored-me. I love the Oak Cabinets. Just look at this corner joint and it looks good in the living room

Hey cuda! It looks awesome. I've heard of these, but never seen one in person. How much did you pay for it? I heard they are very similar to an 80's Mesa Boogie. The circuitry is similar. Man they just did get two twelve's crammed in there, didn't they?

Keep us posted as to when you get it and how it rocks out.

I thought this was a 50W tube amp. I now see it is solid state. Didn't Legend make an all tube amp? That's what I was thinking about.

Does this amp have a tube preamp and solid state power like a Randall? That one picture shows what appears to be 12AX7's.

Re: Legend Rock & Roll 50 combo, Anyone?

Yea, it just got here today and came with the 12ax7 I think wr's soveks with a Fender label. I popped in some old Marshall ec83's and it really didn't change the sound much and at first really didn't like the way it sounded

So I hooked it to my Ashdown Tube Half Stack Cab

and hooked a cable to the preamp output power input to enable the extra gain stage thats #5 below

and Man I love this thing. Its unbelievable. It really doesn't have a bottom end, but that's O.K. It lites-up the "G" "B" and high "E" strings like no other amp has, and even gives me a real good broken up Clean sound. This thing is Flat out hot Classic Rock & Roll sound-in all it's own.

I just found this on the net and got it 280.00 shipped and when I get it Ill put them together and make the head the master and the combo the slave.

I haven't been moved by a amp in a long time. I would of never know it would of been a hybrid. Wow.

P.S Marty what the hell are these Blue things next to the preamp tubes. I think there are 5 or 6 of them.

Those are power filter capacitors. You probably have four or six of them, as they would be an even number representing the same number of power transistors found in the amp.

Kool. Power filter capacitors. Actually there a 5. Are they still available and can one tweak an amps sound through those.

Are all five the same value, or is one different from the others? Since it is a solid state amp, the working voltages will be much lower than a tube amp. Check the voltage and the capacitance values on each of the capacitors. Four of them should go to the power transistors and one should work in the same circuit as the power trannie. They can't be changed out to alter the tone, but they affect the tone if they are going bad. Those are newer style caps that last a little longer than the earlier (all aluminum) styles. I would think they are good, but only a bench test will say for sure. This is only a 50 watt amp and it looks to be overbuilt, so I would say that the caps are okay.

Re: Legend Rock & Roll 50 combo, Anyone?

Legend Amps used to be made here in Syracuse, NY. They are essentially a Marshall tube preamp with a Kustom solid state power amp. At one point they were built inthe Kustom factory. ZZ Top used them on one album. VERY LOUD! I've had a few in the shop.

I sold the 2 Speakers for what I paided for the amp and sold the amp without Speakers for 350.00.

I miss that thing

I had a Legend amp back in the 80s. Didn't really care for it.

my Legend A30 with a G12H100 speaker and some Mesa 12ax7's sounds just like my friends Mesa studio .22

just like any amp with a tube they are sensitive to tube changes, it took several changes for me to be happy with it.

Re: Legend Rock & Roll 50 combo, Anyone?

I still have my old legend A 30 with a celestion in it. Its near mint. Just put some JJ's in the pre amp. The amp wasn't the greatest ever sounding amp but the reliability was awesome. Never had a problem. Well, I had to clean the pots about three times in 27 years, but thats not too bad.

I heard from a couple of guys these babies are starting to become collectible.Wonder how true that is?

collectible yes but the a30 112 combo is only worth about $300.oo or less the rock&roll 50 about the same. 212 combos and heads with 212 cabinets around four hundred. the 100watt supper lead stack is the most collected. and they also made some 410 combos that you dont see for sale often.

Re: Legend Rock & Roll 50 combo, Anyone?

Well I took my A-30 with a couple old fender amps to my local GC and they all jumped on the Legend and gave it a run. I guess these youngsters never seen one before. When they looked in back and saw the celestion it gave it some added mystic!

Thats the only amp they wanted to give me anything for on a trade for the DSL 100 half stack special they were running.. a 100.00 bucks on trade !!! Wow! Would about cover the taxes on the new rig.

I said no and walked. I will keep it for a back up.

Ended up getting the DSL 100 for alot less online!
