Egnater Tweaker 40

Just bought an Egnater Tweaker 40 head and I'm very impressed.

2 identical channels with shared EQ.

Ideal in my view, one for rhythm, one for lead.

Supposed to be able to use either 6L6's or EL34's.

Congrats.....I had a chance to try out a Rebel, never really got a chance to try the tweaker, but the rebel was great. I am sure Tweaker is a versatile amp...

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

the Tweak 40 is my main gigging amp going on as long as it's been out- it's just awesome-, the tweakability is non-stop (if you like that kind of thing), takes any pedal, built well and takes gigging very well...I can go on and on...

I love it...and I think the Tweaker will go down as one of the greats

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

I like a basic tone that is quite bright just on the edge of crunch for rhythm with a bit more gain and a bit less treble for lead. Playing in a 5 piece band I also need a big volume boost for lead work. The Tweaker seems to cover these requirements perfectly.

I really like the gain control that allows some control around the point of breakup.

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

be sure to get the volume up to 1:00...the amp will bloom and you will be blown away-

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

Just biased the Tweaker 40 in accordance with the directions on the pcb.
Power tubes are a pair of Ruby 6L6cgmstr, voltage measured from pin 3 to ground is 448 volts and the pcb advises 65mA bias for the pair
My question is what power is this set up ?
448v x 0.065mA = 29.12W ?
I'm trying not to question the bias advise but it does look a little low ?
Any advise greatly appreciated.

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

I bias to the tubes...and I have EL34s in mine...usually just a hair backed off of 70% max, dissipation

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

Thanks for the reply shooto
So you would have 25w x 2 = 50w x 0.7 = 35w / 448v = 78mA ?

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

yeah, if that's your plate voltage...I don't remember mine...so each tube would be 39mA @ 70%...I back it off a bit to about 37-38

60% would be 33mA or so...that would fall in the range of what you said the pcb states...little cold for me...all-around safe setting I guess though-

that's EL34s (25w)

your Ruby GC's are 30w tubes...70% would be 46mA per tube, 60% would be 40mA and 50% would be 33mA (which would fall in line with the pcb specs...nice and safe for the amp and tube life)...but 50% is pretty cold, imo...I like to get my tubes cooking a little bit-

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

Ok tried the Groove Tube EL34M's but I prefer the Ruby 6L6gcmstr that it came with.

I've biased to 79mA for the pair based on:

30w x 2 = 60w x 0.6 = 36w / 448v = 80mA, or

25w x 2 = 50w x 0.7 = 35w / 448v = 78mA

They defimately sound better biased at 79mA rather than the 65mA Egnater suggest.

No sign of red plating.

Re: Egnater Tweaker 40

cool- you see how I bias and I've never had a problem with it red-plating...I've thrown all kinds of stuff in there too...tweak away!
