anyone ever use a sovtek mig 50? opinions?
Hi everyone,
Just wanted some opinions on the sovtek mig 50 amp. I played one tonight and it has awesome clean sound. Sounds like old fender to me, some people say they really rock but no luck there, even with a zakk wylde overdrive. It has been compared to a plexi in some reviews, is that a fair comparison? any suggestions for pedals or mods and where to go for mods? thinking about trying a metal zone pedal on it for some metal sound. thanks in advance for any help/suggestions. |

The Sovtek and Traynor are compared commonly to the Bassman which can sound a lot alike the early plexi. That being said they don't sound as gainy. They are considered the poor man plexi. Have you played a plexi before because if not they are really loud and you have to use a overdrive pedal with loud volume to get the distortion. Most of these amp are not very pedal friendly so you have to be as minimal as possible. The Sovtek may not be what you want if you play metal, its more suited for clean and blues imo (as along with plexi).

I had a 70's Traynor bass amp. I was never thrilled with it and when it got stolen in the early 80's I was mad but not heartbroken. It sounded okay but a Fender Twin or a tube Marshall is much better IMHO. To this day I don't know why people think it's a "poor man's Marshall"...a plexi sounds way better.
