I build Marshall variants of the original amps, only in lower watts, and in different combinations other than what the originals were designed as. This was a project to see how I liked it, therefore for sale from the beginning. As Leno said about Lay's potato chips...We'll make more. |

Re: New build--36Watt JCM800 2203
I've been gassing for a plexi lately, really badly. But I'm just not into higher wattage amps anymore (trying to preserve what's left of my hearing). Have you tried the 1959 SLP preamp with an 18 watt power supply (EL84s) yet? That would be perfection.

I did a JTM 45 in an 18W recently, 6V6 tubes, and it was outstanding. There's a thread on here about it, and some sound clips too, if you'd be interested in checking that out. Look under "Baby Blues" I also routinely build a parallel / cascade that is very Plexi, in either 18W or 36W, El84's or 6V6's. There's a thread about those too. I have an Ivory cabineted 18W El84 parallel / cascade combo over at Brian's, and he's planning on finishing up some sound clips on it tomorrow, and hopefully do some clips of this 2203 amp. Very nice work on the 36 watt 2203--- i enjoy seeing what others are doing with lower powered versions of popular amps, and sometimes higher powered versions of other popular amps- .I think the ivory JMP head cab looks great---i have a Sourmash ivory JMP 50 watt style head cab still in plastic covering sitting here----- i've been thinking about building an 85 watt Fender Showman based circuit----- single channel with tube Trem--- I have the Classic Tone PT and 4/8/16 ohm OT sitting here---- not sure to go with BF AB763 circuit (except w/real tube trem---single tube-type) or earlier Brownface Showman with the Harmonic Vibrato (2.5 tubes)---- I have several examples, of both circuits, in 40 watt Bandmaster power level---- and a '67 BF AB763 Showman head------ also have a Blonde '64 Showman w/7355 output tubes--- very rare--- but i can kind of tell what a 6V6 x 4 Showman would be like when playing this one----- unlike the 36 watt 2203 (which seems like a good idea), i think a lower powered Showman would be a waste of time--- big headroom is what these amps are all about--- and 40 watt 6L6GC x 2 Bandmasters are cheap and easily available. Again, nice work on the build....................gldtp99 Pics of 7355 Showman: ![]() ![]()

Re: New build--36Watt JCM800 2203
Pretty amp! Brian has about an hours worth of clips recorded, finished them last Thursday before he went down to the NAMM show. I just have to get them from him to post. He really can not stop talking about the tone of that build, so I guess I got things right, which I'm happy with. I really think the 6V6's need the 220K grid leaks to sound their best, which is contrary to what I was told.

Re: New build--36Watt JCM800 2203
I have received the sound clips from Brian Story which sound really, really good, and they will be posted on here later tonight. Not bragging, but they are worth listening to, for a 2203 at lower watts, and I hit what I was shooting for in this build.

Guitar-rocker amps are evolving, growing and expanding in the short time that I have known Terry.I have never met Terry face to face, but consider him a friend, and I can sense his passion and excitement. He has treated me like an old friend.

Re: New build--36Watt JCM800 2203
Are you taking orders yet? Man I bet you could sell a few units here in Austin Texas! Price point? Build time etc.. We all want to know! Damn fine tone, and I love that there were no effects in the way, just guitar and amp right?

Re: New build--36Watt JCM800 2203
That amp is actually up for sale to anyone that might be interested at $1200, plus $42 for UPS shipping. It usually takes about 3-4 weeks time for me to build an amp, however on that amp I had ordered a PT made by Edcor, and Edcor is 9 weeks lead time, which is surely a long time. I do use Baldwin recyled organ PT's when I can find them. On hand I have an 18W on cue to build just like the 36W, probably will come with a black cabinet (black cabs are $100 cheaper than the colored ones and are a stocked item) and the 18W goes at $1050. The colored cabinets take an estimated 3-4 weeks from time that I order them, because they have to come through Sour Mash, and they add an extra $100 over my base cost. THere were no effects used on the sound clips. Guitar straight into the amp, into a 4x12 Marshall with greenbacks. Thank you kindly for the nice comments

Re: New build--36Watt JCM800 2203
I will be informing a friend of mine about your builds, he is a prominent player here in Austin and has been looking for a JMP 45 clone of some type! At a good price point between 1050.00 and 1200.00 that might be right up his alley! So the word will be spread around here!!!

Re: New build--36Watt JCM800 2203
Thank you much! I appreciate the help. I enjoy building the amps, and seeing what they sound like when finished, and Brian who does my sound clips says he has never seen an amp like this one sound so good to him. I must have gotten something way right on that one, but really if they don't sound badass, I rip em apart and redo them until they do. It's fun to see how my amps stack up against a lot of other builds, and to hear other peoples amps and how good they sound too. A fun time in life. Terry
