Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...
So, no offence to users or anything like that, but sometimes we don't like certain amps that other people do, right?
![]() Anyway, for some reason I can't stand Orange amps. At first I thought they were cool and sounded ok, but recently I just hate lookin' at them lol. What kind of amps do you dislike?

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...
For some reason I have always disliked amp heads with the knobs at the top of the cabinetcutout instead of the bottom. I somehow was able to overcome this feeling when I bought my Mesa Nomad and I'm glad I did because it is a very cool and versatile amp.

Peavy's, I hope I don't get flamed!
Here in Memphis, there were/are always old Peavy's in the pawn shops. I have tried quite a few and didn't like any of them. I am sure there are good models that sound great but I can't even think about getting one anymore! |

I can't stand amps with reverb. To me it just sucks the tone out of a good organic sounding amp. In the words of the late Danny Gatton, "if you want reverb turn it up."

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...
I used to not like the looks of Orange amps, but I really want one now.
I'll probably get in trouble for this, but I'd have to say that my least favorite as far as looks is older Vox heads. I'm fine with the Night Train and the "TV" style ones, but the others are just awkward in my opinion. Especially the trapezoid-shaped ones. I LOVE Vox combos though.

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...
Anything with odd looking characters on the face panel. For example, the font on those newer Egnaters, or the 2203KK with the "Celtic" lettering. The design on the front is fine though.
And amps where the numbers stop at "9" (Jet City) or "11" (Some Soldanos). It's a 100% thing, so I want the numbers 1-10, or no numbers at all. Also I hate the dual rec and similar amps with knobs that are impossible to see which way they are pointing. Purely based on cosmetics? I hate to say this, but I really dislike snakeskin and similar animal print type tolex coverings on amps. I'd much rather just have nice solid colors, or nicely figured stained wood or something.

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...
some good ones here.
def orange, the big knob little knob thing, with the scribbles written around em, stupid looking. the peaveys i dont mind looking at are the tweeds, which just look like fenders. anything with different multi colored knobs and stuff, any thing with gay colors. a tube amp is a tool, a machine, it should look like one. industrial, understated, not flashy, its utility not flash in the pan cosmetics. oh and those ridiculously expensive ones with the sliders instead of knobs? hideous. i forget what theyre called. oh yeah, diesel. gross. some of the old old off brands are pretty bad too...silvertone anyone?

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...
Actually my favorite looking amps are Oranges and Matamps, with of course Marshalls in there, but I like Orange and Mat just because they do have an industrial look/quality to them. I love the rack handles, and I like how they are pretty tall and fat, but not very wide or long.

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...
![]() Dig if you will the awesome FlexWave120H head. If sheer volume combined with tone so outstanding it should be declared illegal is the action you crave, then put the FlexWave120H at the top of your shopping list. Producing 120 watts of savage power while sporting three channels and built in effects, it’s the perfect head for the gigging maniac. We guess you could use it in your bedroom too if you didn’t mind re-plastering the walls every week. It’s statistically impossible to dial up a lame sound. We highly recommend our Crate FW412A/B 4x12 cabinets for projecting the bold power of the FlexWave120H head into the skulls of your rapt listening public. Oh brother. This amps sucks. 120 watts of SS power ain't shit to begin with. It's just another flavor of Line 6.

Some of the ugliest amps are, IMO, the old Peavey Butchers/Ultra Pluses/Bandits. So TERRIBLE! |

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...
Yikes. That's atrocious. Those gauges look cheesy as hell.
Anything with rheostats AKA faders instead of pots is a huge fail in my book. Not just aesthetically speaking but practically as well. As far as looks of other amps, I've never liked the look of those red knob Fenders with the felt cloth covering, or any amp with felt covering either for that matter.

STRICTLY on looks alone...
![]() This style of Peavey amps, to me, are some of the fugliest amps around!
