Peavey Penta, That ugly offset control hole thing, what where they thinking?
I hate the Orange Terror series looks.
Fender Mustangs
Heads with the controls at the top (although I like it on combos)
Anything with lots of lights and screens on the control panel... Cough..Line 6...Cough

I agree with this. I know peavy can make some decent tube stuff (e.g. the classic line), but I can't seem to wipe from my mind the idea that peavy = ugly looking, potentionally bad sounding transistor amp.

Maybe I just hate their logo. Too over the top.

It's too bad, they seem to be a decent American company.

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...

I worked in a music store back in the 1980's and I would cringe when someone walked in with a Peavey Bandit or something similar. They were some of the most harsh, un-musical amps that I have ever heard. I think in more recent times they started giving a shit what their amps sounded like again, but there were some dark years where everything was solid-state and sounded awful.

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...

Agree Peaveys aren't really nice looking.

But I've had a 25W Peavey (I think its called Audition 110, or something like that).

I beat the crap out of that amp, and it never had a problem, I never had to take it to a tech. I still own that amp.
Well... its american made. Nowadays things are different, everything outsourced, but when it said made in the US, its reliable.

I hate it when heads dont actually fit the cab. Like running liltle 20 watt heads through a half stack, that shit looks retarded. But then again I use rack gear on top of a cab and that really looks messed up lol.

I also hate it when people have a mesa head connected to a marshall cab. A marshall head running with a mesa cab. EWWW

You guys remember the KMD full stacks in the 80's? They were touted as a "British" amp that was a working man's Marshall. Ugly plastic piece of crap. Came brand new with scratchy pots! And the cabs were ugly too!

How about the Fender M80. I had one once. Mine was the rack head, which was not as ugly. But that gray carpet is just hideous.

Here's one like I had...

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...

Though one should never judge a book by its cover, I would have to agree with the general consensus that Peavey are the most hideous looking amps in history. However, the original poster is correct about Orange amps: they look totally stupid as do Matamp/Green/Electric amps(sorry stoner rockers . I would also like to add Carr, Divided by 13 and most of the new boutique amps to the register. Any amp with multi-color tolex looks really stupid to my aesthetic concerns. Deizel amps look pretty ugly as well.

MG heads.
And most solid state heads I guess. They're shit amps, so they try and make them look "cool" so kids will buy them, but what looks cool to kids dumb enough to buy solid state stacks just looks like ass.

Re: Amps you don't like or can't stand looking at...

Peavey - was ugly for three reasons...pastel, thick wood (very heavy too), and that knuckle scraping tolex! It's like they were trying to assault as many senses as they could. Pastel....ouch my eyes, **** my back hurts, SHIT! I just scrapped all the skin off my knuckles! But I love them especially the VTM's (I own two) and the Bravo (still looking)

Good news is modern Peavey headshells will fit older Peavey Chasis....so my VTM 60 lives in a XXX headshell.

Ya, I have to agree with some of you guys about the MG series. They look ugly, uglier than Vox, lol (j/k). I really like the way Vox amps look actually. I have a cool looking 15 watt Vox Practice amp that is decoration in my house.

Actually, I think the new MGs look really nice and classy compared to the old ones. Silver is neat, okay its not gold, but hey Marshall can now save gold for the Haze / MAs / Class 5 tube line ups. Clearly they were trying to differentiate their lines.

What I hated before about the MG look was that "bug splatter on windshield" thing they had going on by the MG label.

I think they have a new rule too now. White piping = made in UK only.

Hughes & Kettner makes me puke....

There's something about those amps that makes me think "now there's a pile of shite that looks like it was designed by a committee of electronics engineer uber-geeks with delusions of becoming actual musicians".
Every single person I know who owns one of those things was a piss-weak musician.
Heck, Don Airey uses them on stage - it's clearly NOT intended to be a guitar amp!

*Orange amps: I can't stand the look of all that orange.
*Most Egnator amps: I hate that fawn/cream color.
*Most Peaveys: the older Peaveys for sure, but some of the new examples posted in this thread also look very cheap.
*Most Krank amps: all Krankensteins, all Revs, etc. they all seem like I'm looking at a chain link fence instead of an amp.
*Most Raven amps: looks cheap
*Most B52 amps: cheap

Some of these may sound fantastic, but we're talking about the looks of an amp, and these look awful.

I can't believe no one has posted up a picture of the Randall Nuno Bettencourt amp yet. I can't bring myself to do it.

I hate the look of those Diezels with the stoopid slidey knobs. They sound great but look fuggin' awful.
