ANyone familiar with a Randall VMax Hybrid head?
Talk about METAL balls....
Its a 3 channel, one channel is tube driven with 2 12ax7s, has 2 different eqs, your basic 3 tone controls then a graphic 5 band. I dont even know the power rating, it has a massive tranny. Im very curious what they sold for or what they are worth now...cant find shit Its the original not the V2

They don't hold their value very well either. I saw a guy try and sell one for a month on EBAY and he ended up lowering the price several times. I think it went for $380.

yeah i noticed that too. they're solid amps but, Randall doesn't really hold resale in general.
apparently this amp's a Warhead without the Dime sig though i never heard of the warhead having a tube preamp AND ss preamp. I'd love to try one. |

There's a guy trying to sell a Randall RH300 G3 and his starting bid is $380. 7 day auction with one day left, no bids.

Re: ANyone familiar with a Randall VMax Hybrid head?
Randall is the master of hybrid amplifiers. Some use just a 12AT7 input into MOSFET transistors. These are mainly the 100 watt amps. Then they have other more powerful amps that use up to three 12AX7's in the preamp. Some have a dedicated tube preamp and a solid state preamp in one amp.
I have a 1972 Randall RG150 Alpha Hybrid. It has a solid state preamp going into a 12AT7 phase inverter and (4) 8417 power tubes. It cranks out over 170WRMS. I can't sell it, because it has the obscure 8417's in it. I could convert it over to 6550's or KT88's, but that would be at least $300 plus the cost of tubes. (A new OPT would be required.) It sounds okay, but my Peavey MACE that I just sold sounds a lot better. Hey it's a Randall. It's a boat anchor.

Re: ANyone familiar with a Randall VMax Hybrid head?
I almost bought a V2 cause it just killed in the tone area! Randell's stuff has always been good the T2 was the ALL tube version of the V2 and sounded just like it I would love to find one! their new ALL tube stuff is crap though.

V2s and T2s are incredible amps; I love them for what I do. Randall's hybrid stuff is on the money for sure. I'm sure the VMax sounds similar to the V2, though. I heard Dan Donegan used a Vmax early on, if that says anything (to me...it doesn't haha).

Re: ANyone familiar with a Randall VMax Hybrid head?
Can't remember the model, but in the 90's Randall made a 50 watt and 100 watt all tube twin channel. These are supposed to be really nice sounding.
Some of these newer Randall's are 300 watts and higher. Competition to the Mode Four. For those of you who have tried both, how does the Randall SS amps stack up against the Mode Four?

Re: ANyone familiar with a Randall VMax Hybrid head?
Its sad, because this amp just kills...
Its got a really good grind going, thick with a lots of low end, its like a perfect bedroom players amp... I dont know how it acts when its cranked....that could be where it sucks I gave 120 bucks for it, so its just another piece of gear that I ll keep unless I get a good offer on it I really dig playing it...Im guessing cuz my playing sucks and I need to hide behind all that thick warm and fuzziness....okay, whatever
