Re: What amp do you have had , have or want ?

Cosmic Ray, It appears that you have distilled your kit into purity! I LOVE the echo! The only amp. I desire at this point would be a Bassman ('59)

Sweet gear...

The Hiwatt brought back some nice memories - I used to call it my "locomotive" because it was so powerful, especially with two matching 4x12 cabs. Not my sound though...

However, seeing that Watkins Copycat blew me away. I had one when I was 15/16 years old (I am now almost 56) and it was the very first "cool" piece of equipment I ever owned. Thanks for the happy memory.

Do you still use it?

Currently, I use a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo, a Hiwatt Custom Tape Echo, and an Eventide TimeFactor digital delay. A nice combo. Lots of Echoplexes and Roland Space Echoes, "back in the day" (1970s)

How would you compare the Copycat to the modern stuff, or, if it ain't broke don't fix it?

Thanks for posting -

A 1959 Bassman makes perfect sense - kind of "The Big Bang" of it all...

Hope it comes true.

For my ear, since the late 1960's when I first started playing Marshalls, 25 watt Greenbacks with that "floppy" sound has been the only speaker for me despite attempts along the way to broaden my horizons...
I still keep coming Greenback.

Had them out during a little cabinet "project."

Maybe; "Should I have asked out her sister instead?" And last but not least; "Which wife do you wish you had never married?" (tone)

Looking at the three white push buttons on the Copycat, I can almost feel the plastic and sensation of pushing the buttons down from when I was a teenager...

Re: What amp do you have had , have or want ?

Ehh, same as before: I've owned a Marshall MG15CD (the old models), a Peavey Rage 258 and a JCM 800 4210. Currently own an Ibanez TBX-15R, still going to sell it in favor of something else. I'm actually thinking about a POD or something along those lines, something that works good for practicing as well as recording. Amps I do want? A JCM 800 head (which I'm getting soon), a DSL head and a VM 2266.

If I'd have to pick something other than a Marshall amp, I'd probably go with a Hughes & Kettner amp - something like a Switchblade.
I am afraid I am not familiar with a Switchblade, so this may be a redundant suggestion, if you are into the "British" sound, have you checked-out the small Hiwatt and/or Orange combos?

Good point about, "We all have marshalls i think the thread is asking what other amps you have"

However, while the Thread is, "Re: What amp do you have had, have or want?" I think most readers have focused on the, "want" part of the question – which makes sense to me in that this being a Marshall Forum, most of us want another Marshall – for the same reasons which Led us to buying our first dozen of them – haha!

Using an analogy: If you asked a bunch of Harley Davidson owners the same question, I suspect the majority of the answers would be consistent with this Thread's in that the answers would be, "Another Harley Davidson."

Harley Davidson owners know what their motorcycles are, and are not, and, they know about the other motorcycles available to them which are, "not Harley Davidsons" – yet, they still want a Harley Davidson because of what it is, not because of what it is not...

Same mindset with many Marshall owners, they take a perfectly fine question such as this Thread's, and most focus on that they want another, "Harley Davidson!"

I believe that when it comes to Harley Davidsons and Marshalls, one must suspend rationality when it comes to the majority of their owners –(including myself)

Might as well add that I wouldn't mind owning a Peavey 6505/6505+ or an ENGL Fireball. Other than that, I dunno. :P

The Peavey JSX is a better amp imo than the 6505's. Never had an ENGL but I've heard good things about them.

Re: What amp do you have had , have or want ?

I started collecting amps a few years ago and have several. I do a lot of A/B testing with amps, cabs and speakers. I have mostly new stuff and want to see what older things sound like. Some things that I want:

Bogie Mark IIC+
Old Marshalls
Old Fenders
New Boutiques: Dr. Z, Two Rock, Bogner
Marshall Mods - Splawn etc.

Re: What amp do you have had , have or want ?

I just finished building an amp based on one of Dumbles design and I'm having fun discovering the sounds.

I'd like to have a Train Wreck so I plan to build one of those within the next year or so.

Re: What amp do you have had , have or want ?

I've just got myself a Laney VC15 110, which for the money is an amazing little amp. Capable of some great tones, clean or dirty, a nice reverb (quite understated; it doesn't really do much under 5 on the control knob, but it doesn't make it sound like you're playing in your local swimming pool) and some lovely harmonics creep in when you have it set up right.

I'd love to get a decent extension cab for it though, because although the 10" Jensen speaker is ok at bedroom levels, I suspect the amp would sound a whole lot better, when cranked, through something a bit more substantial.

Re: What amp do you have had , have or want ?

I love what I have, but if I were to have anything else, it would be a Mesa Triple Rec, after hearing one live.

I'm addicted to combos and loved my '98 TSL 2 x 12 Combo. Never should have sold it......
Now I'm pining for a JVM 215C single 12 Combo. Just missing that Marshall sound!

Re: What amp do you have had , have or want ?

Well things have changed a bit since the JVM days. I'm running a Randall RM100 instead. I really like it a lot and I've found my sound. I'm still looking for a smaller grab and go type.... If I sold the 6505+ and the Fender HR Deville I could get the new RM22 18w combo (which isn't out yet, but soon) and use the same preamp modules and I'd need to add a KH1 module. Failing that a Marshall Class 5 once they work out the bugs. In any case I really don't need the 6505+ and the Fender if I can get one of these. I do think the RM22 would be more suitable for my situation, and I wouldn't have to change my sound that much.

HAHAHA! I'd just like a head that works for more then a half hour!

It does make me sad.

I'd like a Vintage Modern, JVM 410, Splawn (whichever one... I'd just like to try one), Mesa Single Rectifier, Peavey Classic 50, Valveking, and a JCM 800 with a Soldano gain mod.

Along with my Marshalls I love my Soldano Hot Rod 50+...

But I would LOVE to have a VOX Super Beatle (or similiar)... Not so much for the sound but because I grew up seeing them with the Dave Clark Five, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Beatles (of course) and scores of other bands using them, and they look so damn cool...!

Hi Sidnm, I would look more to the AS100D Marshall in your case. I use it and it has inputs for 2 Guitars, Vocals and CD/MP3 for backing tracks. Great sound and with 100 watts enough headroom for any smaller gig.
