    Hi Marty,

My name is Kenny, I was talking with one user here - "HAMPAMP TUBE AMP SERVICES", then he referred me to seek help from you. It is much appreciate, if you have spare time to answer my questions.

I am a newbie to vintage marshall amp; recently I picked up a vintage marshall amp - JMP Super Bass 100W from a local private dealer; it should manufactured in 1974. Currently, I put EH-12AT7 & EH-EL34 inside it. I have no experience of changing tubes for amp at all , I have no idea of which kind of tubes has good tone to go with this amp. Does anyone has suggestions of what tubes I should try with this amp ? I heard someone said different tubes has different characteristic, so what if I really into vintage amp sounds, something like what John Frusciante's sounds, any tubes can come close to his sound?

Anyways, thanks for all suggestions and help in advance !!!

    Thanks a million !!!

    Kenny

OK, can someone give me a hand with the "level settings" and also the "loop" arrangement on the DSL100 head? I have a DSL100MLB and a Boss GT6 processor. I am not quite sure if the level button on the back panel of the amp head is to be IN or OUT when plugged into the processor. Also, where do you set the level adjustment on the processor? The manual's for both are very unclear. They do make very clear not to set either too high! And what do you check into if your effect's sound is faint when going through the Loop? By now you know I'm no pro, but I think I've got the loop arrangement right according to the manual, please help me not to blow the thing up! THANKS!!!

I sent you an email about what sardines I want so far. Depending how much they are I may get a couple more. The high gainers sound very good with the 7025 lower gain in V1. If I can get some of these I am set for a long while.

Its about time you got a sig up! Looks good to. I like it and yes NOS is the shit. I'm a convert. Don't tell anyone...Like its not noticable he he. I believe the JP 12Ax7Wa was the very first NOS I bought and that was before you introduced me to the good stuff. I finally put it in the NT and it sounds good. It ousted the At7 I had in there but its still a Jan he he. You going to send the 401 back or fix it yourself? Any ideas what is wrong?

I forgot to tell you the NT has the Jan AT7, Mullard RI 12AX7 and those gorgeous NOS Russian EL84's in it. Its got some Marty in it yes it do! Kinda sounds perverted but ya know I speak figuratively here.

    Alright then, carry on...

I just got done turning the NT loose man. I was using my Tele HH GT, CTO-1 pedal and a wee bit of delay. I selected the full 15 watts and blues'd it up...shit still smok'n back in the bedroom man. Wow! My ears...I got it plugged into my 112 K100. So this speaker is mass efficient and takes those 15 watts for everything they have to give.

Pedal on or off it was a beautiful thing. It oozes blues I have to say. A gain machine it is not but it overdrives to a solid aggressive crunchiness with the pedal boosting a bit. Thick voice will hit hard rock territory. The CTO-1 really tightens up the thick voice and makes it better.

The musical feedback happens readily and screams out them notes while soloing as well as fingering chords. It really comes into its own with the volume at about 3 pm.

Guitar roll off is natural and the amp has great sustain. Cranked to 3 o'clock in the bright mode with no pedal its just expressive and sustainful. Put the pedal to it and man does it bite good.

Hey Marty, I've gotta pick your brain...

Whaddaya think of these questions? ... Standing a 2x12 combo on end?

I added my little theory on the subject, but wondered what a more experienced player such as yourself might think of it.

And, as my favorite TSL expert... Does a TSL have two or three channels?

Marty, I haven't scanned the entire schematic yet but i have located a possible source for problems. Your master volume is part of the bias circuit, it is a 220k dual pot that takes the place of the standard 220k resistors found in most Marshall bias circuits. Check to see if the pot operates normally. If the carbon strips or wipers have been damaged , that could cause you all kinds of problems. most important is what it measures across the pot since that is the part of the pot that is in the bias circuit. Check that and i'll look some more.
