Thanks a lot for your help. I have ordered the RSD and a pair of JJ el34's this morning. Ordered the other tubes last night. I'll definately let you and everybody else know how I like them in the preamp tube thread.

    Cheers,
    LPM

Edit: BTW, do you have a tone pack for the 1987x? If so how much is it? I'm thinking of buying one when I'm going to replace the NOS pre's I have bought now.

Chances are that the Miniwatt was made in Herleen which is the same plant that the Bugle Boy was made at. They are both probably pretty close in tone. The main thing to be concerned with is how much life is left in the tube.

Rolling tubes can get expensive. The Bugle Boy is just an older version of the Amperex and/or MiniWatt. People pay more for a Bugle Boy, because they think it is a better tube. I think all Amperex/MiniWatt tubes made in Herleen were pretty much the same quality up until the late 60's.

    Hi Marty,

I have ordered a philips miniwatt 12ax7 today.
Right after I ordered it (among with some other NOS tubes) I found out I could also get an amperex bugle boy 12ax7 for only 7,50€ more.
How does the bugle boy compare with the philips miniwatt? And did I make a mistake buying the philips if I could get a bugle boy for €7,50 more?

    Cheers,

    LPM

    They're decent prices for holland.
I have no idea what NOS tubes would suit me best. I want to play bonamassa style bules and rock.

I took some time to look at that tube website. I thought the prices were on the high side. Plus, they didn't have any pictures. What tubes are you looking for? A GE? I think you could do better on EBAY.

    Hey marty,

I have found a website that has some great tubes at decent prices.

    http://www.hifitubes.nl/catalog/index.php

I don't want to spend too much money. Wich tubes from this website would you recommend?
I have seen a much cheaper sylvania (27.50 instead of 49 euros) a philips miniwatt (22.50) and a balanced GE (19.59) all 12ax7's. I still have some NOS 12au,av and ay7's laying around that I am also going to experiment with.
