MajorNut was our 1000th poster. He hit it at about 9:25 PM 08/28/2009. The Major is a cool dude and I'm glad he got it. Joe and I were watching it and I tried to set Joe up for it, but then he told me to go for it, but the Major made the winning post. I just wanted to let you know.

Yeah it sucks. The "manager" didn't call me back this evening and that upset me. They didn't respond to my email and they didn't call me back. Now I'm going to have to become a politician so I handle this ordeal "the right way." I am already getting that sinking feeling about either having to drive 55 miles to take it "back in," or them telling me that they didn't do anything wrong and if I want to bring it back they will charge me. There are about six Marshall authorized service centers in the KC area. If necessary I will take it somewhere else. The dude that worked on it was a chain smoker and probably a little "meth" on the side.

The 401 is doing fine. However, one thing I noticed with the 122 is that although it works fine, it has a hum problem. It's loud enough that if I had to mike the cab it would be aggravating over the PA. I've tried contacting the tech...no good. So I am waiting right now for a manager to call me back. It really sucks, because before it had bias drift and no hum. Now it has hum and no bias drift. Tube amps-You gotta love them.

I do have to say that my old 1972 Randall has four 8417's and it puts out 170 watts. In it's day, this tube was rated at 50 watts. Supposedly, four of them made 200 watts. Randall decided that it would be better to throttle the tubes back a bit and rated four of them at 150. These are special, high output tubes that used to be in some of the finest hi fi tube amps. I tried to sell it a couple of times, but no one wants an amp that they can't get cheap tubes for. 8417's are about $80 a piece when they are listed on Ebay. I've seen matched quads go for over $450. Need I say more? Oh I will. You could put some good tubes in the Bugera and the tubes would be worth more than the amp.

I wanted to point out that he also stated that the power filter caps were installed under the chassis. Ahh, I know that modern components are smaller, but them power caps were small. I just don't see the power supply being able to support a 150W amp. The trannies were big, but that doesn't mean anything. He tried to make it seem like since they had chrome bells they were somehow better. D-Dunce! Even if the amp had KT88's or 6550's (or the obscure 8417), they would have to be pumping 37.5 watts per tube. I've never seen that. I've seen six, 6550 equal 150 watts, but not four. Also, why was he comparing the Bugera to an old discontinued Marshall. Why not the VM? It's not a Blackstar by a long shot.
