Hey, good to hear from you as well. You're young so it's no big deal that your taste in music will change. I grew up with the rockers of the late 50's and 60's. There was a lot more emphasis on lyrics and a good hook. You didn't need to be a shred king. When I hear that old stuff, it puts a smile on my face.
Yeah, not a problem. I just want you to know that the SD was sort of a ground breaker. When it came out, there wasn't a lot of pickups out there like it. So what I am saying is that a lot of famous guitarist's used the SD. It was a mainstay in 80's rock music.
Yeah you could do it on a VOL knob as long as you take care not to pop it in and out when you are rolling the volume. The SD came out in the late 70's, because I had my Goldtop tricked out in 1979. However, the SD became totally popular with many of the rock guitarist you like. Hell, that's why they still sell it. It is one of their best sellers ever. Maybe you can find a similar guitar with an SD in it so you can try it out. Have you ever played an SD before? If not, try to find a music store that has a guitar with an SD in it.
The DiMarzio is one of the best...a standard. I had one in my Les Paul back when I played three nights a week. The trick is to get a push/pull tone control (best to do it with the tone control) and use it to control the DiMarzio between a Humbucker and a Single Coil. I mean you can use it just as the Humbucker, but on a one pickup guitar, having the ability to go from HB to a Single Coil is fantastic. Some people drill a hole in the body and put a micro switch in, but I think it is cleaner using a push/pull pot. In Single Coil mode it will get deadly. Just a great pickup. I put a PAF and a Super Distortion in my Schecter. What a difference over those stock pickups. Yes, do it!
WOW! You are young. I raised my kids on all rock music. They grew up with my 80's music. My 12 yr old can play Paradise City on my drums. Yes, I am on the LP forum. Havent been there for some time. Thx for the compliment on the Slash LP. Its a great guitar. Just like the other Slash signature LP's I rarely play it.
How old are you? I am 41. The glam scene hit when I was about 16 or so. It was a wild time. When I played out I was doing the GnR look before they ever came out. I did bleach my hair oncce but that as close to that look that I got. A lot of good stuff came out of the LA glam scene. Still, I liked the striped down look/sound that I was after. I think thats why GnR appealed to me so much.
