Re: Looking for a Boss GE-7

Just a suggestion....the Monte Allums modded GE-7 is awesome. The GE-7 can be noisy stock, but the mod makes it super quiet. It's worth the extra money to keep the noise down.

Re: Looking for a Boss GE-7

I just sold mine on here last week to BRP. It wasn't noisy at all. It was a fairly recent model made in Taiwan IIRC.

I sent mine to Monte Allums. He modded and sent it back. No issues at all and a great improvement.

Ok great man I'll check it out.
Since it's noisy without the mod/stock, how does the GE-7 compare to the MXR M108? I'm just looking to use it as a lead boost with the jube, maybe also as a mid boost.

Looks awesome but is he based in America?
I am from Australia so that sucks! It would cost me way more to send it over there and get him to send it back

Well that's good to hear. I never thought to ask, just jumped on the deal!

I imagine the noise reported might be coming from some pretty severe boosting?

I plan to cut with mine more than boost, especially in the highs where added noise from boosting would be most prominent.
I'll add a bump at 400 and 800hz no doubt but will surely cut @ 3.5

Re: Looking for a Boss GE-7

With a compressor in a high gain tone you will also get more hiss or noise.

I do a version of this mod as well , i call it the " Blue Sky Mod " !
And the difference is huge afterwards !!

It consists of removing all the cheap Boss caps & Op amps !

Re: Looking for a Boss GE-7

Hey Grogs,
There must be somebody near you who does pedal mods.

I got my GE7 a 'quiet' mod here in NZ. I'm pretty sure there was more than one supplier offering the service.

Also I'm pretty sure they just did exactly what HotTubes mentioned - i.e. replace some cheap parts with quality parts.
