That's a good price on a great pickup! Bill, if you don't jump on that...

OH I did, fear not bro.
Good to hear you like it though. I've not tried one but from the sounds of it's design and description, I think it'll be great as an upgrade in my Vintage/Wilkinson LP's neck position.

Try it in the bridge before you park it in the neck. That pickup sounds killer with the right setup. It'll work fine in the neck I'm sure, but it has some pretty aggressive mids - sort of a half-cocked wah tone. It has great note definition even when you really dig in.
HOT TUBES 70 and brp like this.

I have one in the neck on my Ibanez. It's superb. If you have the space, wire up a series/parallel switch too. You get a beautiful single coil-esque sound from it in parallel.

Perfect.
I will try it in the bridge too though.
I'm actually looking for a bridge and neck for the same guitar so we'll see which spot this is best suited for.

Re: Dimarzio DP151 - PafPro Humbucker

I love it!

I see what you mean about the half-cocked wah. It's awesome. Takes some getting used to and changing up the EQ a bit but the half-cocked wah sound is what I'm often going for. I even have an A/B mix set up with a static half-cocked wah on one line and dry on the other and I mix in the amount of half-cocked wah that I want:

I've only tried it in the bridge so far.

Awesome !!!! I'm glad you like it !!

On a side note , you should have told me that you were going to run a splitter on the output of your SD1 , i could have installed a second output jack during the mod !!!

Re: Dimarzio DP151 - PafPro Humbucker

At the time you did it, I only had one amp. You're right though, I SHOULD have. Hindsight is 20/20

That was an experiment I was doing at the time of the pic. I actually don't split at the SD-1 anymore, I run it straight to the GE-10 and then split the output of that but will go back to splitting at the SD-1 if/when I get a 2nd EQ just for the 2nd amp.

The more I play around with this PAFPro the more I like it.
Thanks again Man!

Re: Dimarzio DP151 - PafPro Humbucker

It's a good pickup. I wouldn't want to use it for everything but I like having it in my Kramer. It goes well with an '80s MIJ basswood body and Floyd Rose guitar.

Re: Dimarzio DP151 - PafPro Humbucker

Ya, I was actually thinking I might end up swapping it into my Kramer and put it's Air Zone in the LP.

Re: Dimarzio DP151 - PafPro Humbucker

Well I actually moved it to the neck position of this LP cuz I wasn't sure I was digging it in the bridge as much as the one that was in there. Don't get me wrong it was cool there but like you said RR, not for everything and I actually had no prob with the bridge pup that was in there, just had to try it out. It seemed to have a weird fizzy undertone in there. I tried adjusting height and it didn't really change completely, although somewhat. Maybe I just didn't fiddle with the amp enough.
Maybe adjusting the pole pieces individually may have helped but I got eager to try it in the neck as it was the neck I was looking a pup for to begin with.

And this one is decidedly an improvement there. And what a unique tone too.
This LP, unlike the stock Gibson wiring is wired with independent volumes so this PAFPro is great to mix in a little bit of with that independent Vol.
I wasn't digging the stock one, too bland, but this one has some very unique vibrancy to it's tone in the neck and mixing in just a bit of it with the bridge opens up a whole new flavour.
It'll probably stay in there for awhile, not sure I wanna mess with the mojo I'm getting with the Air Zone in the Kramer, at least not right now, very likely try it in there someday though.

Re: Dimarzio DP151 - PafPro Humbucker

That's cool about the Les Paul neck. Yours would work fine for me... it's zebra. The one in my Kramer is pink. You can get away with that in a seafoam green guitar that C.C. DeVille would be seen with but it might draw some looks in a Les Paul.

Re: Dimarzio DP151 - PafPro Humbucker

Ya, I hear that.
Well since this thread's purpose has been served, how about a pic of your Kramer?
I got a zebra Air Zone in mine.

edit:
Oh and here's the PAFPro in the LP:

This is the Kramer. Best deal you'll find for an ESP. I need better pics.

Well hell, I can't post it with this phone. I'll get it tomorrow morning.

Re: Dimarzio DP151 - PafPro Humbucker

No worries.
Another bonus of trying the PAFPro in the bridge was while I had the original Wilkinson out, I took the time to buff that damn ugly gold plating off the pole pieces, so now with it back in, there's one less thing with gold.

I'm slowly degolding this thing, only thing left is the tuners. And of course the bell knobs. I'm not sure anything else would look right for them though?
Amber maybe. Suggestions anyone?
