NAD!!! New Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Reissue
Man I regretted selling the one I had so badly but I finally got another one. I put some JJ's in an rebiased and now it's so damned awesome. I love this amp so much!
Son of a bitch! It sounds so damned good. It's a little trebly at low volumes but once you get to around practice volumes, it starts getting warmer and spongier. I've been using a T-Rex Dr. Swamp and Maxon OD820 with it. Man single coils, Les Pauls, etc... it all sounds good through this amp. Thank God Marshall still makes these. I wish Marshall didn't discontinue the DSL's though. Next conquest, JCM900 4100 Vintage Reissue. |

Re: NAD!!! New Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Reissue
Congrats on the new amp. I've still not heard one of the reissues in person, would like to compare it to mine, just to see how close it is. Gotta make a point of doing that....

Re: NAD!!! New Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Reissue
Man I've compared it to the old ones and it sounds the same to me, but you need to replace the stock tubes. I put JJ's and a couple of hours after rebiasing and breaking the new tubes in, it sounds even better.
Sonically, the difference between an old JCM800 and the new reissue is the same as the difference between an old Les Paul and a New One. After the electronics get worn the sound gets a little softer around the edges and the response is a little more plyable. It's a very very slight difference you can only hear by direct comparison, but if you keep a JCM800 reissue for several years, it will sound like that too. I had one from 2003 to 2008 and sold it due to a divorce, but I recently picked this one up to replace it. The one I had just sounded better and better every time I replaced tubes and rebiased. They're incredible amps man, and I've got some high-end shit to compare them with - Bogners, etc... |

Re: NAD!!! New Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Reissue
Yeah, no doubt they're good amps! Though I realize I'm biased.
This reissue uses EL34's correct? What speakers in the cab? My amp had 6550s when it came over the pond, but I changed it to 34s after a while, just sounds more classic, more correct for what I think of as the Marshall tone. I've tried a lot of different 34s over those 25 years, some I've been happy with some not. Just changed it from Electro-Harmonix to Winged =C= and am very happy with these tubes. Smoother, warmer, better bass response, tighter bottom end. Probably lost a little high end, but that's perfect as I was looking to tame the brightness. The RFT in V1 has helped of course as well. As for the JJs, I've used their 12AX7s, but never their power tubes. You have JJ EL34s in there now? What do you think of them? Are you using the 34L version?

Yeah Im using a JCM800 2203X Reissue... It rules!
I replaced the Pre-amp valves to NOS Mullards and Brimars and i boost it with a tube screamer and it sings at high volume! Iv played many gigs where people are like WOW is that an 800? Awesome amp!

Re: NAD!!! New Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Reissue
I've got a 2203 RI. I love it. Mine's from 2003. I've only had it for a few months though. bought it used and it's the best amp purchase I've ever made. Today I added a used Gibson R7 to play on it.
